Manager - Microsoft Systems

Position Summary

The Manager of Microsoft 365, Collaboration Services & Cloud Identity is responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance, and operational excellence across the organization’s Microsoft 365 ecosystem and the Azure-based identity and security services that support it. This role oversees enterprise collaboration platforms—including Teams, Teams Voice, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive—and manages Entra ID governance, Conditional Access policies, identity lifecycle processes, and cloud-based automation tied to M365. 

The manager leads a small team of M365/Teams administrators, ensuring secure, reliable, and high-quality experiences for all end users while aligning collaboration and identity services with business strategy, cybersecurity requirements, and technology roadmaps.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the service owner for Microsoft 365, Teams/Teams Voice, and cloud identity services.
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year roadmap for collaboration, identity, and cloud.
  • Align M365 and Azure identity with organizational goals, security standards, and digital strategy.
  • Define and enforce governance, security, compliance, and configuration standards across collaboration and identity platforms.
  • Lead change management for new Microsoft releases, feature updates, and service enhancements.
  • Collaborate with Security, Networking, Infrastructure, and Business Application teams to ensure a unified cloud operating model.
  • Oversee administration of Microsoft Teams, Voice, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Entra.
  • Ensure reliability, performance, availability, and operational maturity through monitoring and optimization.
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, operational procedures, and configuration standards.
  • Manage the organization’s cloud identity strategy, including Conditional Access, MFA, identity protection, and licensing governance.
  • Govern app registrations, enterprise applications, permissions, consent workflows, and identity lifecycle.
  • Support Zero Trust, Secure Score improvements, and other cloud security initiatives.
  • Lead automation and integration development using PowerShell, Graph API, Azure Automation, and Functions.
  • Reduce manual workload by identifying and implementing automation and process improvements.
  • Oversee Teams Phone, including routing, call flows, E911, quality analytics, and voice governance.
  • Monitor service health and proactively resolve voice, collaboration, and identity related issues.
  • Guide incident, problem, and service request resolution to ensure timely and effective support.
  • Drive training, user adoption, and enablement programs for collaboration and communication tools.
  • Analyze service trends and recommend improvements to policies, configurations, or automation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of 2-3 technical staff
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop M365 and collaboration staff, setting goals and measuring performance.
  • Provide mentoring, training, and career development opportunities.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback.
  • Establish and track team performance goals, SLAs, and KPIs.

Position Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 8 – 10 years’ experience with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or managerial experience
  • Experience with Teams Voice or unified communications.
  • Leadership or service ownership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of M365 security and automation.

Preferred:

  • Microsoft 365 certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
  • Teams Administrator Associate (MS-700)
  • Identity and Access Administrator (SC-300)
  • ITIL Foundation
  • Networking fundamentals certification

  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and listening skills
  • Ability to respond to and handle confidential business and personal information/documents

Other Requirements of Position

  • Works under limited supervision. Independently determines the approach to take and the methods to use.  Interprets policy in terms of objectives.  Informs manager of unusual situations with far reaching implications.
  • Major responsibilities typically require creativity and latitude. Employee typically operates with specific objectives but often few written or unwritten procedures as guidelines.  Some policies or precedents for action exist.
  • If an error is made while in this position, it will require some effort to identify the error and can moderately impact the company financially
  • Frequently communicates with management, coworkers, and vendors
  • Maintains equipment and supplies to avoid waste, damage to areas and equipment, and to prevent accidents
