We are seeking a Manager of DevOps Engineering to lead our DevOps function as a combination of Platform Team and Enabling Team, aligned to Team Topologies principles, across four product lines. This role is responsible for defining and executing a modern DevOps strategy (≈60%), while remaining hands-on (≈40%) to actively guide engineers and development teams in adopting modern practices. The DevOps organization exists to enable fast flow, reduce cognitive load for product teams, and provide a reliable, self-service platform for delivery and operations.

The Manager of DevOps Engineering will lead 3+ full-time DevOps Engineers and coordinate external DevOps service providers, partnering closely with Architecture, Development Managers, QA/Test Automation, and Product Management to ensure DevOps capabilities are scalable, discoverable, and adopted across teams.

ears and helping mitigate billions of dollars in financial and brand risk.

DevOps Mission (Team Topologies Lens):

  • As a Platform Team: Provide internal, self-service DevOps capabilities that product teams can use independently to build, deploy, and operate software safely and efficiently.
  • As an Enabling Team: Temporarily embed with product teams to help them adopt modern DevOps practices, remove bottlenecks, and upskill teams—then step back once capabilities are internalized.
  • This role ensures the organization does not rely on DevOps as a centralized delivery gate but instead uses DevOps to accelerate all teams.

What You'll Do:

Platform Leadership & Strategy (≈60%)

  • Define and evolve a DevOps Platform strategy that serves four product lines with shared, reusable capabilities
  • Establish platform standards and golden paths for:
    • CI/CD pipelines and release orchestration
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
    • Cloud architecture, scalability, and cost management
    • Observability, logging, metrics, and alerting
    • Secure-by-default environments and pipelines
  • Ensure the platform minimizes cognitive load for development teams while enabling autonomy
  • Partner with Architecture to align DevOps platform capabilities with long-term technical direction
  • Prioritize platform investments based on flow efficiency, reliability, and developer experience
  • Maintain a high standard of security awareness, ensuring data protection, compliance with company policies, and adherence to industry standards in all aspects of work.

Enabling Team Leadership (≈40% Hands-On)

  • Lead by example through direct technical involvement and coaching
  • Temporarily embed DevOps engineers with product teams to:
    • Improve deployment pipelines and release safety
    • Enable teams to own their services and environments
    • Reduce manual steps and DevOps dependencies
  • Teach and model modern DevOps practices rather than owning execution indefinitely
  • Create documentation, templates, and automation that allow teams to self-serve

Team & Vendor Management

  • Manage and develop 3+ full-time DevOps Engineers, emphasizing platform thinking and enablement behaviors
  • Direct and coordinate external DevOps service providers, ensuring work aligns with platform and enablement goals
  • Set clear expectations that DevOps success is measured by team independence, not ticket throughput
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and learning

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with:
    • QA and Test Automation to increase deployment frequency and pipeline reliability
    • Development Managers to ensure teams can deploy and operate independently
    • Product Managers to align release processes with business outcomes
    • Architecture to reduce fragmentation across product lines
  • Act as a trusted advisor and coach across engineering teams
  • Drive adoption of shared platform capabilities and golden paths

Metrics & KPIs Ownership:

The Manager of DevOps Engineering owns and drives improvement in the following flow and reliability metrics, aligned to Team Topologies outcomes:

  • Deployment Frequency (partnering with QA and Test Automation)
  • DORA Metrics
    • Deployment Frequency
    • Lead Time for Changes
    • Change Failure Rate
    • Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR)
  • Change Failure Rate
  • Runtime of Updates (deployment and infrastructure update duration)
  • Cycle Time to Perform a Release
  • Reduction in DevOps-related handoffs and dependencies for product teams
  • These metrics are used to measure team autonomy, flow efficiency, and platform effectiveness—not individual performance.

What We're Looking For:

  • 6+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience managing or leading engineers
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Expertise in:
    • CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.)
    • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, etc.)
    • Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, etc.)
  • Experience supporting multiple product teams or product lines
  • Demonstrated success improving delivery speed and reliability through enablement, not centralization

Assets:

  • Practical experience applying Team Topologies concepts
  • Experience building or evolving internal developer platforms
  • Background in SaaS or B2B software environments
  • Experience managing external vendors or managed service providers
