Manager - Cloud Operations (DBA)

TLDR

Lead the database team at Vendavo to implement cloud-native SaaS solutions with a focus on performance, security, and high availability while mentoring and driving innovation.

We are seeking an experienced Database Administration (DBA) Manager with experience in managing enterprise-scale database environments. The ideal candidate will lead the database team responsible for design, performance, security, availability, and reliability of critical databases supporting business applications. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking to manage database infrastructure across cloud environments. THE OPPORTUNITY
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Database Platform Strategy
  • Define and drive Vendavo’s database platform architecture and strategy for cloud-native SaaS applications.
  • Evaluate and adopt modern database technologies and best practices.
  • Support scalable architectures capable of handling large pricing datasets and complex calculations.
  • Database Operations & Reliability
  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and data durability for production environments.
  • Design and maintain replication, clustering, failover, and backup strategies.
  • Maintain enterprise-grade uptime and operational SLAs.
  • Performance Optimization
  • Optimize databases supporting high-volume pricing calculations, analytics workloads, and transactional systems.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to improve schema design, indexing, and query performance.
  • Conduct proactive performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Cloud Database Management
  • Manage and optimize databases across AWS or Azure cloud environments.
  • Support and maintain managed database services such as RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, or Cloud SQL.
  • Lead initiatives for database automation, scalability, and cost optimization.
  • Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor a team of DBAs and database engineers.
  • Establish operational standards, documentation, and runbooks.
  • Drive a culture of automation, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Security & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to data security, encryption, and access control policies.
  • Support compliance with SOC2, GDPR, and enterprise security standards.
  • Implement best practices for data protection and governance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, and Application Engineering teams.
  • Support SaaS platform releases, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
  • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis for database-related issues.
  • THE SKILL SET
  • 12+ years of experience in database administration or database engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience leading or managing database teams.
  • Strong expertise in enterprise relational databases such as: PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server
  • Proven experience managing databases in cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
  • Deep experience in:
  • Database performance tuning
    High availability architectures
    Replication and clustering
    Backup and disaster recovery strategies
  • Experience supporting large-scale SaaS or enterprise platforms
  • Strong knowledge of Linux-based environments.
