The Opportunity

Patients Know Best is looking for a detail-oriented accountant who takes pride in their work and is genuinely interested in positively contributing to the lives of millions of patients.

We are looking for a proactive "finisher" who will thrive in a flexible, fully remote environment. We operate a "high-value, low-volume" business model where the focus is on care, control, and value, rather than processing endless stacks of invoices.

The finance team is small, making this an ideal role for someone who can excel in the administrative side of finance while aspiring to learn and develop in broader areas, such as accounting principles, audit management, management accounts preparation, forecasting, and liquidity management.

What You Will Do

You will ensure the smooth operation of our financial engine. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Revenue & Cash Flow: Collaborating with the Business Development (BD) team to manage Accounts Receivable for high-value customer contracts. You will raise invoices accurately and in good time, to ensure prompt payment and provide monthly updates to the BD team regarding overdue receipts.
  • Expenditure Control: Managing Accounts Payable by verifying invoices against contracts and obtaining necessary payment approvals. You will ensure invoices are logged accurately in Xero and move the team toward more automated payment run processes - a transition you will help drive.
  • Financial Integrity: Performing daily bank reconciliations in multiple currencies (ensuring all necessary documentation is attached), maintaining the Fixed Asset register, and auditing/approving staff expenses.
  • External Reporting: Preparing and submitting accurate monthly reports to Framework Providers, who manage the procurement process for our NHS customers.
  • Compliance & Support: Assisting with miscellaneous financial queries, supporting the audit process, and helping drive more robust internal controls and efficient processes.
  • Any other duties that may reasonably fall within the purview of this role.

Room for Professional Growth

We want you to grow with us. A skilled candidate will have the opportunity to take on higher-level accounting duties, including Nominal Ledger journals, prepayments and accruals, deferred revenue calculations, VAT returns etc. As part of a small team, you will gain exposure to financial elements far beyond what is typical in a larger corporate environment.

Requirements

Who We Are Looking For

  • Remote Ready: You have proven success working in a fully remote environment and possess strong time management skills. You are trustworthy, independent, and take initiative to meet deliverables.
  • Attention to Detail: In our high-value, low-volume model, accuracy and noticing the finer details are essential.
  • Initiative & Inquisitiveness: You naturally question why processes are performed a certain way and are willing to express ideas to improve how we work.
  • Tech Savvy: You have demonstrable competence with Xero and Google Sheets/Drive and are comfortable working in an Apple environment.
  • Spreadsheet Specialist: You have strong skills in Excel and Google Sheets and are keen to expand this skillset to improve efficiency.
  • Communicator: You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. You are personable and collaborate effectively across different departments.
  • Qualified: You are either "Qualified by Experience" (QBE) or in the early stages of an accountancy qualification (ACCA/CIMA/AAT).
  • Commercially Minded: we don’t just want you to process numbers, we need you to understand them with the objective of contributing real value to the company.
