About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Technician / Mechanical Fitter to join our Manufacturing team at the Lytton Refinery. 

 

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable mechanical maintenance activities across the refinery, supporting equipment integrity, plant reliability, and compliance with Ampol’s Operational Excellence Management System. 

 

The position also includes participation in an on-call roster, with on-call duties approximately once every six weeks, providing after-hours and weekend support for breakdown maintenance. 

 

Key responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical maintenance safely and in full compliance with Ampol OEMS, Safe Work Procedures, and Permit-to-Work requirements, supporting zero-harm outcomes. 
  • Work autonomously across all refinery areas, including hazardous chemical and process environments, escalating issues when engineering or specialist support is required. 
  • Deliver preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on rotating and static equipment, including pumps, compressors, exchangers, valves, and tanks. 
  • Execute precision mechanical tasks such as alignments, torquing, measurements, tolerances, and equipment rebuilds to OEM and API standards, with accurate as-found/as-left documentation. 
  • Identify equipment defects, raise SAP notifications, and provide technical input to Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Projects, and Operations teams. 
  • Participate in RCAs, PM optimisation, continuous improvement initiatives, and safety observations, actively identifying hazards and improvement opportunities. 

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate IV in Mechanical Engineering or above. 
  • Proven experience in maintenance in the Oil and Gas industry. 
  • Proficiency with SAP, Excel, and document management systems.  
  • Experience in Power BI is desirable 
  • Strong attention to detail and time management under competing priorities. 
  • Forklift License, Working at Heights, Confined Space Certificate, Rigging and Dogging Qualifications preferred but not required. 
  • Experience in refinery, manufacturing, or heavy industry settings. 
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge working on rotating equipment, reciprocating compressors, steam turbines piping and valves. 
  • Must have the ability to read Engineering drawings, Isometric drawings and P&ID's. 
  • Exposure to reliability or maintenance planning frameworks (PM03, work packs, reactive break downs etc.)
