The Speak team creates the world’s most human realistic text-to-speech software. We began as the acquisition of Sonantic in 2022 and we now provide the voice to Spotify’s AI DJ in 2023. Our mission is to give Spotify users personalized speech every day, in a scalable way through AI voice. The AI DJ is the first of many immersive speech experiences that the Speak team will support. We're a team of researchers, engineers, technologists, voice data and product experts, designers, and product managers in London, other parts of Europe, New York and we collaborate daily with the Boston team.
What You’ll Do
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to the engineering teamHelp set a vision for your team and then ensure we efficiently achieve our goals
- Ensure your team of engineers are performing at their peak, are growing, and advancing in their careersWork with the data and research teams to ensure projects are on track, your team is utilized effectively, and core engineering needs are continuously addressed
- Experience creating and dismantling engineering processes with a strong experience-driven intuition for crafting minimal, simple processes
- You can dive into our codebase, intuit how it works, and be able to have a strong intuition for suggestions that will lead us to a stronger engineering position
- Create a diverse and inclusive culture that makes all feel welcome while enabling entrepreneurial candor and the challenging of group think
- Ability to represent engineering teams in conversations with stakeholders
Who You Are
- You have 5+ years of experience as an individual contributor engineer and at least 2+ years of experience leading several other engineers
- You have experience in encouraging agile software processes, data-driven development, the production of secure and reliable systems, model provenance, and principled experimentation
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and constantly evolving conditions
- You view changes as an opportunity to add structure and order when necessary
- You’re familiar with speech and audio processing either though signal processing, audio ML or both and experience developing models for natural language processing (NLP), ideally generative modeling
- You have built large ML models using PyTorch and distributed training frameworks such as Horovod or torch distributed, experience with Ray is a plus
- You have hands-on experience of developing production machine learning systems at scale on the cloud in Java, Python, or similar languages
- You appreciate the value of high quality data collection and evaluation processes, always looking for ways to scale up and automate
