Re-inventing the way people move between cities Over the past few decades, we've seen massive changes and improvements in the way we get around within a city through the creation of micro-mobility and rideshare businesses. However, since the advent of Amtrak in 1971, there have been no new modes to travel in the 50-350 mile range. The poor experiences provided by buses, trains, and planes have turned America into a massive driving market. To contextualize, over 90% of trips taken in the 50-350 mile range are done via personal vehicle and over 80% of these vehicles only have a single occupant in them - the driver. This has led to endless levels of congestion and pollution on our interstate roads, making the experience of getting between cities a slow and mind-numbing task. Our mission at Hitch is to create the world's most connected network of intercity travelers by leveraging the empty seats of these drivers and matching them to riders. We're creating a ride experience that's an order of magnitude better in service quality, convenience, and price than buses, trains, and planes. By crowdsourcing the network and leveraging the power of communities, we've already started to see solo drivers ditch their vehicles and ride with Hitch. Today, over 51% of riders on the Hitch platform used to drive themselves before finding out about Hitch. This is a dynamic that no company in the U.S has seen before and we couldn't be more excited to continue on our march to solve the intercity transportation problem in the U.S.Cities are far apart in the United States. We want to make them feel closer together. Many people are working on building driverless cars; however, a real problem today is the number of riderless cars where there’s just one occupant in the vehicle. Even if the computer is driving the car, it doesn’t make a difference if there’s only one person seated in it. Our focus is to first collaborate the consumption and then introduce autonomous vehicles to create a diverse, shared AV network. Most transportation companies are focusing on building autonomy models for the in-city use case. However, the utilization, logistics and economic structures are vastly different for intercity rides. Long-term, we believe that a network of shared autonomous vehicles will be the lowest cost, most dynamic, and overall fastest way to move between cities.
