Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, has an opening for a Technical Specialist in our Loss Control department to provide industry-leading content designed to enhance policyholder services across all premium bands through remote and self-service channels, ultimately striving to improve customer service satisfaction, client retention, and technical proficiency within the team. This individual will be responsible for maintaining the department's online Safety Center and Teams pages, as well as coordinate document management.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
REMOTE AND SELF-SERVICE MANAGEMENT
Manages the BHHC Safety Center in collaboration with Marcom and Bongarde to deliver industry-leading content in easily accessible formats. Develops and provides content for industry verticals.
Schedules and completes webinars providing the largest impact across policyholders. Sessions will include a certificate Executive Leadership Series and a Supervisor Series.
Develops, maintains, and schedules Toolbox Talks for various industries, to include: Construction, Agriculture, Transportation, Manufacturing, Retail & Wholesale, Roofing, Landscaping, Medical Transport (Ambulance) and Home Health Care.
Obtains certification for organization to deliver web-based OSHA 10 in Manufacturing and in Construction. Schedules and presents quarterly in a virtual environment.
Manages development, maintenance and posting of Loss Control content for internal and external viewing via SharePoint and Teams.
Serves as a subject matter expert and training resource for external business partners and customers in occupational safety and loss prevention. Conducts remote training as appropriate.
Maintains professional designations and certifications as required by regulatory bodies for assigned territories.
CONTENT DEVELOPMENT/TRAINING
Collaborates with Loss Control management to develop and implement formal content for servicing the organization's book of business.
Collaborates with Loss Control management to establish an industry-standard, service-centric competency library, encompassing key areas of focus (Consulting, Insurance, Safety and Risk Management), spanning across levels within the department, and focused on progressive professional development. This will entail periodic assessment of existing standards to ascertain current practices and ensure consistency in performance standards across reporting lines.
Generates fresh content, enhances existing training materials, and guides learning through a range of adult learning principles and various modalities/sources. Ensures content is well-paced, engaging, and inclusive of varying levels of experience and varied use cases.
Creates standardized and scalable learning and delivery processes to keep customer content with evolving industry standards, technology availability, and departmental procedures/company policies.
Proactively seeks feedback to improve the user experience and develop new content offerings. Assesses the impact of current content and ensures linkage with department and company goals. Applies insights from assessments to make ongoing improvements.
Collaborates on communication regarding content releases and assists with the administration and coordination of training activities.
Puts in place appropriate processes and tools to track remote and self-service efforts and outcomes; provides data to leaders consistently to improve utilization and outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health & Sciences, Engineering, Hard Sciences (Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics), or related discipline; or, combination of long-term cumulation of relevant, progressively advancing technical industry experience and certifications, required.
Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver's License to drive in the United States in good standing required. One or more of the following certifications required: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Ergonomist (CE), and/or Masters-level certification. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 10 years providing loss control or occupation-related safety services, preferably with workers compensation carrier, required.
Experience developing and managing remote and self-service delivery tools.
Experience with layout and editing webpages, webinars and other collateral.
Experience using and leading social media campaigns.
Prior experience creating and delivering learning content or programs preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
General knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Regulations and standards; relevant industry legal and regulatory compliance requirements.
Demonstratable ability to develop effective risk management strategies for common loss sources.
Expert knowledge of industry-standard investigation techniques and protocols and incident data analyzation.
Expertise with safety management systems (e.g., OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001).
General Knowledge of adobe products, Microsoft Publisher, and other layout and editing software.
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting – demonstratable ability to collect, analyze, and interpret safety data to identify trends, track progress, and provide meaningful reports to clients and stakeholders.
Knowledge of office operations, workflow analysis, and current technologies in telecommunications, data entry, and file management.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications and able to quickly master proprietary and vended software applications and transfer knowledge to development of a variety of learning materials.
Ability to master use of eLearning authoring software.
LANGUAGE ABILITY
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to compose and critique complex reports that describe the operations, exposures, and controls of a wide variety of industries.
Ability to effectively present information to management, internal peers and business partners, clientele, and public groups translating complex technical information into easily understandable terms.
Ability to translate learning objectives and concepts into content that is easy to understand and apply.
MATH AND REASONING ABILITY
Ability to review data regarding training assessment results, aptitude scores, trainee application feedback, and work performance to draw valid conclusions regarding correlation, quality, and outcomes.
Comfort with complex calculations and equations for safety and industrial hygiene solution development.
Ability to understand and take action regarding problems involving multiple variables.
Ability to apply common sense when carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to create targeted, evidence-based learning content that synthesizes the most relevant content.

TRAVEL
Occasional travel to policyholder offices or worksites, vendor offices, and/or BHHC corporate offices is required.
