Logistics Associate

World Central Kitchen is seeking a Logistics Associate responsible for coordinating and organizing the movement of goods,and materials in an organization.  They may be responsible for managing the rapid transportation of goods, overseeing the storage and distribution of products, and coordinating the flow of materials within the organization. Other duties may include negotiating contracts with transportation and logistics providers, managing budgets and costs related to logistics operations, and tracking and reporting on the progress of shipments. 

The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, rapidly changing environments, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, has strong communication and problem solving skills, and possesses a solid understanding of logistical and transportation systems, including international customs and import/export documentation.

Additionally, the candidate must be willing to travel occasionally and have the flexibility to support WCK’s efforts across multiple time zones, including during nights, holidays, and weekends when necessary. This is a full-time exempt position based in Capitol Heights, MD, and requires a minimum of four days on-site per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule the rapid transportation of goods to support the urgent needs of WCK response teams on the ground.
  • Accurately track and monitor delivery progress, and handle and resolve any issues or delays in transportation. 
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure smooth and streamlined logistics coordination.
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to rapidly deploy supplies to disaster or conflict zones using both traditional and non-traditional logistics methods.
  • Maintain and update logistics systems and databases to ensure ongoing accuracy of databases. 
  • Negotiate rates with vendors and carriers.
  • Manage and maintain inventory levels.
  • Implement cost-saving measures for logistics operations.
  • Provide customer service for logistics-related inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and laws related to logistics.

Requirements

    • High School and/or equivalent education.
    • 1-2 years of experience in logistics management required.
    • 2-3 Years of experience in a warehouse, supply chain or production environment.
    • Working knowledge of shipping, customs regulations, and import/export requirements.
    • Capable of lifting 50 lbs and standing or walking for extended periods of time.
    • Capacity to train and teach processes and procedures.
    • Ability and willingness to travel when necessary.

Preferred Skills

    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Gsuite (Mac based) and logistics software.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Familiarity with transportation regulations, international trade compliance, and documentation requirements (Highly desirable).
    • Ability to analyze problems, make sound decisions under pressure, and maintain accurate records (Highly desirable).
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records (Highly desirable).

Travel Requirements

    • A small amount of travel may be required to support an activation.  

Physical Aspects/Work Environment:

    • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands or fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. 
    • Regularly/Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually low/moderate.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 USD Per Year, Depends On Experience
