Job Description
As a Peer Worker within our EIPSR team, you will form effective and empathetic peer relationships by sharing your lived experience in a purposeful way in the hopes of creating deep connections and move towards a future of hope and possibilities.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Utilising Intentional Peer Support principles and tasks to engage with consumers and staff.
  • Maintaining responsibility for an allocated caseload of consumers, including engagement, follow-up, documentation, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Form effective and empathic peer relationships by sharing personal lived experience in a purposeful way; making deep connections with others; showing curiosity about worldview; forming mutual relationships; and moving towards a future of hope and possibilities.
  • Engaging with consumers to develop trusting and professional relationships I order to identify their needs and support them to reach their recovery goals.
  • Providing opportunities to discuss problem solving strategies, reflecting on helpful and unhelpful behaviours.
  • Encouraging and supporting consumers to access and remain engaged with their support services.
  • Provide clear and concise case notes in a timely manner following consumer engagement to manage client files within program requirements.

Who we are looking for 
We’re seeking a Peer Worker with the ability and willingness to self-reflect and share own experiences of recovery with others for the benefit of advancing their recovery.

The ability to collaborate effectively with young people, families, colleagues, stakeholders will be essential to the success of this role. 
You will also have:

  • Lived experience of mental illness, substance dependence and/or trauma.
  • Lived experience of the recovery journey.
  • Previous employment as a Peer Worker Grade 1 (peer cadet or trainee).
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of and commitment to human rights and social justice, trauma-informed care, and the harm minimisation approach.
  • Personal experience of the public or private mental health or AOD systems (highly regarded).
  • Advanced knowledge of the local area and its health services and other community services (highly regarded).
  • Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work and/or Intentional Peer Support core training are highly desirable.
  • Current state-based driver’s license.
