ActioNet is looking for a Linux Administrator. The Linux Administrator will be responsible for enterprise system, patch, and network operations across Red Hat (RHEL), Solaris, and Windows environments. Oversaw patch lifecycle planning, execution, automation, reporting, and cross-team coordination while supporting system optimization, capacity planning, and network operations in a federal environment. Worked closely with engineering, cloud, and operations teams to ensure secure, reliable, and compliant infrastructure while providing technical guidance and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
• Managed monthly patch schedules, reschedules, and waivers for RHEL and Solaris servers using Patch Management GUI tools, databases, and automation platforms
• Created and published monthly RHEL, Solaris, and Patch Assignment schedules and baseline documentation on SharePoint
• Developed and executed database queries to support monthly CAPI patch cycles and added patch slots as needed
• Researched and resolved patch pre-check errors prior to scheduled patch windows
• Collaborated with Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams to troubleshoot and resolve patching issues during patch cycles
• Performed patch sequence identifier (PSI) testing to validate kernel installations and errata updates
• Trained Tier 1 personnel on non-runbook patch automation processes using Ansible-based Patch3 tools
• Worked with Engineering Operations to resolve issues related to Patch Management databases and automation tools
• Conducted and facilitated regular patch coordination meetings
• Partnered with Cloud Engineering to test new patching solutions prior to production deployment
• Compiled and delivered weekly and monthly patch compliance and performance reports for federal stakeholders
• Supervised daily system configuration and operations across mainframe, mini, and client/server systems
• Planned and monitored system optimization, capacity utilization, and performance
• Conducted system capacity analysis and long-term planning activities
• Assisted users with access to and utilization of business systems
• Coordinated and implemented network hardware and operating system additions and changes
• Investigated, analyzed, installed, configured, and tested new network hardware and software
• Provided operational support for network performance, utilization, and response time monitoring
• Detected and resolved operational issues at both physical and logical network levels
• Troubleshot network issues using measurement tools and physical device testing
• Maintained network infrastructure standards, including TCP/IP protocols
• Provided technical consultation, training, and support to IT staff as designated
