Role Overview
The Life Sciences & Marketing Brazilian Portuguese Linguist manages translation and copy-editing activities and ensures the delivery of high-quality Brazilian Portuguese linguistic outputs across assigned projects or accounts. The role supports content across multiple domains, with a primary focus on Life Sciences and Marketing, while also contributing to projects in Technology, Manufacturing, and Entertainment.
Main Responsibilities
- Performing copy-editing and on-demand translation tasks for assigned projects or accounts
- Providing lead linguistic support on designated projects or accounts
- Managing and maintaining language assets, including glossaries, style guides, and work instructions, ensuring they meet quality standards and remain up to date per project or account requirements
- Managing and resolving project-related linguistic queries
- Fostering effective collaboration among team members and addressing terminology and language-related questions
- Testing, qualifying, and onboarding new freelancers and vendors as required
- Supporting the development and training of internal linguists and external partners in line with account needs and Welocalize's standards
- Communicating with clients on linguistic matters when required
- Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of workflows and processes
- Meeting or exceeding KPIs related to productivity, on-time delivery, and quality
- Achieving objectives and targets set by the team manager
Requirements
- Education Level: University degree in Translation, Applied Languages, Linguistics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (university degree in another discipline combined with at least two years of full-time professional translation experience, or a minimum of five years of full-time professional experience in translation)
- Native fluency in Brazilian Portuguese
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken, in a variety of registers
- A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in translation, localization, editing, or content writing
- A minimum of 2 years of linguistic review experience
- Thorough understanding of the localization process
- Excellent command of terminology across multiple subject areas, including Life Sciences (e.g., Clinical Research and Medical Devices) and enterprise content such as Marketing, UI, and Product/Service materials
- Strong user proficiency with standard software environments, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong user proficiency with industry-standard CAT tools (e.g., XTM, SDL Trados Studio) and issue tracking and query management systems (e.g., JIRA)
- Ability to learn new localization tools and applications quickly
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of terminology used in two or more subject matters
- Ability to work with tight deadlines
- Ability to give clear, concise and constructive feedback
- Ability to clearly present information and effectively respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and linguists
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
