Lidar Software Test Lead

AI overview

Lead the software testing strategy for cutting-edge LiDAR technology, ensuring safety and performance in autonomous applications while mentoring a team of test engineers.
About us: Aeva’s mission is to bring the next wave of perception to a broad range of applications from automated driving to industrial robotics, consumer electronics, consumer health, security, and beyond. Aeva is transforming autonomy with its groundbreaking sensing and perception technology that integrates all key LiDAR components onto a silicon photonics chip in a compact module. Aeva 4D LiDAR sensors uniquely detect instant velocity in addition to 3D position, allowing autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to make more intelligent and safe decisions.   Role Overview: As the Lidar Software Test Lead, you will be the technical cornerstone of the test organization. You will ensure that our sensing technology meets rigorous safety and performance standards by bridging the gap between hardware/software development and final validation. You aren't just managing a process; you are a technical mentor and a strategic liaison who ensures our testing infrastructure scales with our innovation. What you'll be doing:
  • Represent the test organization in SW feature reviews. Translate complex feature requirements from software developers into actionable test strategies.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a team of test engineers. Review test plans, provide guidance on complex test case design, and perform code reviews for automated test scripts.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between the Development and Test organizations, ensuring alignment on bug prioritization, feature readiness, and "design for testability" (DFT) requirements.
  • Identify gaps in current test frameworks and lead the development of internal tools, HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) setups, and simulation environments to improve test coverage and efficiency.
  • Ensure all test strategies align with AUTOSAR layered architecture and ASPICE process models.
  • Oversee the testing of cybersecurity features (e.g., Secure Boot, Authenticated CAN/Ethernet messages) to protect against sensor spoofing or data injection. Integrate ISO 26262 functional safety requirements into the test suite to verify fail-safe and fail-operational behaviors.
  • Define the "How" and "Why" of our testing approach, moving beyond simple validation to deep exploratory testing of LiDAR point clouds, perception algorithms, and sensor calibration.
  • What you'll have:
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years in software testing or development, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role.
  • Hands-on experience with LiDAR, Radar, or Computer Vision systems. Understanding of point cloud processing and spatial data is highly preferred.
  • Expert level proficiency in Python for test scripting, automation, and data analysis.
  • Proven experience contributing to or implementing test software architecture and frameworks.
  • Experience with data analysis techniques and tools for handling large datasets (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, MATLAB).
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability in report generation.
  • Highly analytical, methodical approach to problem-solving, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Nice to Have
  • Strong knowledge of automotive testing standards and frameworks, such as ISO 26262, ASPICE, AUTOSAR, etc.
  • Deep understanding of automotive software systems, including embedded systems, ADAS, infotainment, or electric vehicle control software.
  • Experience with Jama requirements management software (or equivalent)
  • Exposure to HIL/SIL/MIL test environments
  • Familiarity with CAN, LIN, Ethernet, UDS, and diagnostic protocols
  • Aeva is building the next-generation of sensing and perception for autonomous vehicles and beyond using FMCW LiDAR technology.
