Key Responsibilities

Funeral Services & Family Care:

  • Arrange and conduct funeral and memorial ceremonies in accordance with customs and traditions with professionalism and compassion
  • Facilitate arrangement conferences with families, negotiate funeral contracts, and present available services, merchandise, and benefits including veterans' recognition
  • Preside as Master of Ceremonies for visitations, funeral services, and graveside ceremonies
  • Coordinate all aspects of services including removals, transfers, preparation, and logistics
  • Handle pre-need arrangements and provide aftercare to families
  • Ensure families receive exceptional, personalized service that exceeds expectations

Operational Management:

  • Manage day-to-day operations including scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Ensure compliance with all professional, municipal, state, and federal licensing regulations
  • Complete and accurately prepare all required documentation, contracts, legal documents, and reports
  • Monitor facility, grounds, vehicles, and equipment maintenance ensuring professional appearance and proper working order
  • Manage inventory of caskets, funeral supplies, and merchandise
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality

Financial & Business Management:

  • Support business planning and achievement of financial goals
  • Monitor operational expenses, approve expenditures, and control costs effectively
  • Support initiatives to encourage profitable case volume growth

Leadership & Staff Coordination:

  • Guide and direct funeral home staff to ensure cohesive, high-quality service delivery
  • Communicate expectations clearly and maintain service excellence standards
  • Foster a sense of ownership and pride among team members
  • Provide oversight, coaching, and support for staff development

Community Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships within the community and local religious organizations
  • Participate in community, civic, and religious organizations to strengthen the funeral home's presence
  • Represent the funeral home with professionalism and cultural sensitivity

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to all licensing regulations, company policies, and industry best practices
  • Promote and maintain a safe, healthy work environment

Requirements

Required Qualifications

Licensing & Education:

  • Active Funeral Director license in the state of Ohio (must meet all Ohio licensing requirements as prescribed by the state board)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical diploma in Funeral Services or Mortuary Science
  • Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science or related field as required by state law preferred
  • Valid driver's license

Experience:

  • Completed internship for Funeral Director
  • Minimum 1-2 years of funeral service industry experience
  • Demonstrated progression of responsibilities throughout career
  • Proven track record of providing exceptional service to families
  • Experience managing daily operations in a funeral home environment

Preferred Qualifications (not essential)

  • Extensive experience with Jewish funeral customs and traditions highly preferred - deep familiarity with Jewish funeral rites, burial practices, religious requirements, and cultural sensitivities
  • Licensed Embalmer certification (dual Funeral Director/Embalmer license)
  • Prior experience managing people and leading a funeral home team
  • Knowledge of HMIS, InfoPort, and CarePoint systems
  • Experience working in premier or high-volume funeral locations
  • Track record of community engagement and business development
