Legal Counsel - Contract & Property Portfolio

NEXTDC’s Legal function is responsible for providing strategic legal advice to enable the business to achieve its commercial objectives while managing legal risk in compliance with applicable laws.

This role is responsible for providing expert legal advice for NEXTDC’s Australian and international operations. You will also manage all responsibilities and hold accountability for the overall management of NEXTDC’s property portfolio including managing lease arrangement with third parties and providing legal services to internal stakeholders.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert legal advice for NEXTDC’s operations and business, including sales, marketing, intellectual property, general contract and regulatory matters;
  • Leading the review, preparation and negotiation of commercial agreements including both sales and supplier contracts;
  • Assisting in the development of policies, procedures, and training programs for staff on relevant legal issues;
  • Engaging with the management team and external advisers in the evaluation, structuring and documentation of future business opportunities; and
  • Acting as a single point of responsibility and accountability for the overall management of NEXTDC’s property portfolio, including negotiating and managing leases with tenants and ensuring adequate insurances are maintained.

 

This is an initial 13 month maternity leave cover that can be based in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra.

 

  • Bachelor of Laws / JD and admission in relevant State / Territory
  • Previous experience in general corporate and commercial contract reviews
  • Understanding of property law / management
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant acts and legislation
  • Strong working knowledge of building services, developments, and trends to assess possible implications on tenancy, financial and physical aspects.
  • Strong contract management, negotiation, especially service agreement negotiation, and influencing skills
