About Our Team

The Office of Digital Learning (ODL) is a core component of Notre Dame Learning (ND Learning), the hub of learning excellence and innovation at Notre Dame. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates with faculty to design and develop online and digitally enhanced learning experiences with best practices for course development, learning technologies, and delivery strategies to inspire and create transformational learning experiences. 

Your Role

As a Learning Design Intern, you will be an integral part of our team for approximately 12 weeks. You’ll be doing more than just “helping out.” You’ll work alongside experienced designers to build high-quality digital learning experiences while receiving direct mentorship in evidence-based instructional strategies. You’ve studied the theory and know the tools, so this is an opportunity to apply your skills to real-world projects in a collaborative environment. You will also gain experience navigating the professional landscape of higher education, facilitating design consultations, and building effective partnerships with faculty and other stakeholders. What You’ll Do

The responsibilities of this role are commensurate with experience and educational background. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting and collaborating with learning designers on an ODL project(s) to develop learning modules, assessments, learning activities,etc.;
  • Conducting research and gathering information related to the project(s), including instructional design trends and best practices.

Who You Are

We are looking for creative, curious, and detail-oriented graduate students or recent graduates who can apply instructional design principles to real-world academic projects to create high-quality, effective learning experiences.

  • Design Mindset: A demonstrated understanding of learning design processes and a “go-getter” attitude for solving pedagogical puzzles.
  • Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred) and a foundational knowledge/skills in Generative AI, HTML coding, graphic design, authoring tools, and/or LTIs.
  • Communication Pro: Excellent written and oral communication skills with a sharp eye for editing and proofreading.
  • Collaborator: Ability to work independently when needed, but thrives in a team-based, feedback-rich environment.
  • Upcoming or Recent Graduate: Near completion of (or recently graduated from (12 months or less)) a graduate program in Learning Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field.
  • Deadline to Apply: April 3rd, 2026

  • Time Commitment: Up to 30 hours per week.

  • Location: This is an in-person position at the University of Notre Dame. Once you’re settled in, a hybrid schedule may be established. Remote candidates need not apply.

  • Compensation: This is a paid internship with an hourly rate between $20 and $25/hr commensurate with experience.
