JOB SUMMARY
The Leadperson is a critical "working supervisor" role responsible for bridging the gap between management and frontline operations. The primary objective is to ensure safe, efficient production at plant or quarry operations by planning, organizing, and directing the daily work assignments of the assigned team.
 
This individual acts as a steward to Martin Marietta’s "Guardian Angel" safety culture, ensuring that all teammates adhere to MSHA regulations while meeting production quotas. You will spend most of your time in the field, operating equipment alongside your team while simultaneously monitoring mechanical performance, housekeeping standards, and safety compliance.
 
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement and enforce all federal (MSHA), state, and company safety policies.
  • Coordinate daily production shifts, ensuring equipment is utilized effectively to meet output goals and product quality standards.
  • Lead the plant safety committee and implement all federal (MSHA), state, and local safety regulations.
  • Assist in training new hires, provide input for annual performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary actions or commendations to management.
  • Perform regular inspections of plant equipment for mechanical issues. Work with the maintenance team to schedule preventative maintenance and assist with repairs as needed.
  • Accurately complete daily production, safety, and maintenance logs. Assist management in developing mining plans, profit plans, and monthly forecasts.
  • Operate mobile equipment (loaders, dozers, haul trucks) and perform manual tasks (shoveling, sweeping, plant cleaning) to maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Assist the Plant Manager and Production Supervisor in developing mining plans, profit plans, and monthly production forecasts.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of all aggregates, cement, or asphalt products to ensure they meet customer and regulatory specifications.
  • Identify and recommend operational efficiencies to maximize production while minimizing waste and downtime.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience.
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in the building materials, mining, or aggregates industry.
  • 1–2 years of supervisory or lead experience is highly preferred.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
  • Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull weights ranging from 50 to 75 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, and kneel for extended periods on uneven quarry terrain.
  • Climb ladders and stairs (sometimes up to 100 feet in elevation) to inspect plant components like catwalks, conveyors, and silos.
Working Conditions
All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty.Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.

COMPENSATION
The hiring range for this position is $30.00 - $48.00 exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
