About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform to help architect, build, and evolve a modern, cloud-native data platform. This role focuses on designing scalable data systems, establishing technical direction, and enabling high-quality data products across the organization.

As a senior technical leader, you will define platform architecture, guide engineering strategy, and mentor engineers across teams. You will ensure the data platform supports high-volume, real-time, and analytical workloads while meeting standards for reliability, performance, and governance.

Location: Pune, India
Work Type: Hybrid

What You’ll Accomplish in Your First 12 Months

First 90 Days

• Build a deep understanding of Securly’s data landscape, including ingestion pipelines, storage layers, analytics workloads, and search/indexing systems.
• Review existing data architecture, tooling, and operational patterns across batch and streaming use cases.
• Identify gaps or improvement opportunities in data modeling, performance, reliability, or governance.

First 180 Days

• Lead the design or evolution of one or more core data platform components (e.g., Iceberg tables, ingestion pipelines, indexing/search layers).
• Deliver measurable improvements in data reliability, performance, scalability, or cost efficiency.
• Influence engineering standards through design reviews, architectural proposals, and best-practice guidance.

First 360 Days

• Establish technical direction for major areas of the data platform, aligning architecture with long-term business and analytics needs.
• Drive cross-team initiatives that improve data quality, discoverability, and platform reliability at scale.
• Serve as a trusted technical leader and mentor, shaping how teams build and operate data systems across Securly.

Core Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Define and evolve the long-term architectural vision for a modern, cloud-native data ecosystem.
• Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives spanning data ingestion, storage, processing, indexing, and analytics.
• Establish best practices for data modeling, schema evolution, governance, and data quality.

Platform Architecture & Development

• Design and implement data lake and warehouse solutions using AWS S3, Apache Iceberg, Parquet, OpenSearch, and Amazon Redshift.
• Build scalable data pipelines supporting both batch and streaming workloads.
• Establish reliable metadata management, cataloging, and discovery patterns centered on Iceberg table formats.
• Develop and optimize search and indexing capabilities using OpenSearch.
• Contribute core platform services enabling ingestion, orchestration, lineage, monitoring, and observability.

Collaboration & Influence

• Partner with product, analytics, security, and infrastructure teams to align platform capabilities with business needs.
• Mentor engineers across multiple teams, raising the bar for design quality and execution.
• Lead design reviews, set engineering standards, and guide adoption of emerging best practices.

Reliability & Optimization

• Ensure platform performance, scalability, and cost efficiency across storage, compute, and indexing layers.
• Drive reliability initiatives including observability, SLAs/SLOs, automated testing, and operational excellence.
• Identify and resolve system bottlenecks through data-driven analysis and architectural improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Has designed and evolved large-scale, cloud-native data platforms by applying deep expertise in distributed systems and data architecture — capability typically developed through 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including operating production data systems at scale.

• Has led the design and implementation of data lake or warehouse solutions using AWS S3, Apache Iceberg, Parquet, OpenSearch, and Amazon Redshift, delivering reliable analytical and operational workloads.

• Has built and optimized batch and streaming data pipelines supporting high-volume ingestion and downstream analytics.

• Has delivered search and indexing capabilities using OpenSearch or similar technologies in production environments.

• Has demonstrated strong backend engineering skills using Python, Java, Scala, or similar languages for data platform development.

• Has driven technical direction, influenced architecture across teams, and mentored engineers — experience typically associated with Staff- or Principal-level engineering roles.

• Has worked closely with cloud infrastructure, security, and governance teams to ensure data platforms meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with streaming systems such as Kafka or Kinesis in large-scale data environments.
• Familiarity with orchestration platforms such as Airflow, Dagster, or AWS Step Functions.
• Applied knowledge of data governance, access controls, and compliance frameworks.
• Proven track record designing enterprise-grade data platforms used across multiple teams or business domains.
