About the Role

Reporting to the Transit Operations Supervisor, the Lead Hand is responsible for supporting daily transit operations while assisting the Supervisor with operational coordination.

This role involves a combination of on-road and office-based responsibilities, including:

  • Assisting with daily operations and service continuity
  • Coordinating vehicle switch-outs
  • Supporting operational needs during scheduled driving shifts
  • Performing administrative duties related to transit operations
  • Using multiple computer platforms, including payroll systems, internal reporting tools, and scheduling software

The ideal candidate is adaptable, organized, and comfortable working across different areas of transit operations in a fast-paced environment.

Your Role

  • Oversee fleet maintenance and on-road fleet coverage
  • Maintain paperwork (i.e., timesheets, vacations, fleet reports)
  • Act as a liaison for third party vendors
  • Perform daily circle checks on spare vehicles and are prepared to switch off broken down vehicles or complete a run-on last-minute notice
  • Immediately report and document all injuries, collisions or property damage that occurs
  • Perform safety blitzes or road observations on drivers at the direction of the Operations Supervisor
  • Immediate point of contact for resolutions of issues affecting daily operations or escalate to Supervisor level if needed
  • Assist with issues involving IT equipment such as tablets and smart card readers
  • Available to assist with other duties as outlined by Transit Supervisor

Hourly Rate: $21.00/hour Please note this is a unionized position.

Shift Details: Monday to Friday, 3:00pm-11:30pm

Requirements

Your Profile

  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You possess a high proficiency in typing and computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • You possess proven leadership experience
  • You are an active listener with sound judgement
  • You possess general knowledge of vehicle maintenance & requirements
  • You possess a valid G class driver's license
  • You possess a clean drivers abstract
  • You possess a clean criminal record search
  • You have excellent customer service experience
  • You are highly organized with strong communications skills
  • You are an effective problem solver
  • You are detail-oriented
