👀 The Role

Title: Lead Game Developer – Free to Play (F2P) / Instant Games

Team: Product – Free to Play

Location: UK (Remote)

We’re building a new suite of Free-to-Play and Instant games inside the Midnite app, and this role will define how they’re built.

As Lead Game Developer, you’ll own the technical direction, gameplay architecture, and delivery standards for our F2P games. You’ll sit in a small, autonomous team alongside product, backend, and design, shaping ideas into polished, high-quality playable experiences that feel fast, rewarding, and visually rich.

This is more than implementation. You’ll influence how games feel, perform, and integrate into the wider Midnite ecosystem. The standards you set, around architecture, animation, performance, and maintainability, will define how future games are built.

If you care deeply about gameplay feel, technical quality, and player experience, this is your chance to shape a new vertical from the ground up.

You will:

• Own the technical architecture and gameplay standards for Midnite’s F2P / Instant games
• Build and ship core gameplay systems using Phaser, Pixi.js, or similar WebGL frameworks
• Implement smooth animations, polished interactions, and responsive input systems
• Ensure games are performant and stable across mobile devices and in-app WebViews
• Collaborate closely with the Lead Artist to deliver visually rich, high-quality experiences
• Integrate frontend gameplay with backend systems for outcomes, rewards, analytics, and configuration
• Work with native app teams to ensure clean WebView integration, lifecycle handling, and fullscreen experiences
• Align game builds with product, compliance, and operational requirements
• Set and uphold engineering standards for game development, including performance optimisation and maintainability
• Mentor future game developers and provide technical guidance as the team scales

Requirements

The next Midniter:

• Has 5+ years building games or real-time interactive experiences
• Has hands-on experience with Phaser, Pixi.js, or similar HTML5/WebGL frameworks
• Is highly proficient in JavaScript / TypeScript
• Has worked in casino, iGaming, betting, or instant games environments
• Understands performance optimisation across mobile browsers and WebViews
• Has experience working with server-authoritative or deterministic game logic in regulated or high-trust products
• Can confidently translate product ideas into scalable gameplay architecture
• Thrives in cross-functional collaboration and communicates clearly with product, design, and backend teams

Bonus points if you have experience with 2D physics systems, fake-3D techniques, WebGL performance tuning, or exposure to PlayCanvas / Three.js / Unity.
