We are looking to pivot our North American infrastructure operations towards a developer self-service capacity. This will enable our market-facing product development teams to embrace full autonomy to manage their products from end-to-end, including ideation, development, provisioning and deployment, to production runtime monitoring. The person in this role will help design and build that solution, including identification of the proper toolsets, engaging with other teams to capture technical requirements, prototyping use cases, soliciting developer input, and ultimately establish a fully functional Infrastructure-as-a-Service automation (IaaS) platform for our development teams.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this role are two-fold:
- Drive the design and implementation of IaaS platform
- Lead the day-to-day activities of existing Devops business-as-usual (BAU) activities for our North American product development teams.
IaaS Platform
- Materially participate in design of Internal Developer Portal (IDP) to enable infrastructure self-service for market-facing product development teams.
- Directly lead the infrastructure / DevOps team to implement the IDP, and foster adoption across multiple product development teams.
- Engage with adjacent teams to capture technical and compliance requirements necessary to implement the IDP, including infrastructure standardization, audit requirements, cost management requirements, etc.
- Prototype developer use cases of the IDP to prove out proposed implementations, ensuring the IDP matches our operational needs
- Assist with planning adoption and expansion of IDP across development teams
BAU Activities
- Oversee day-to-day activities of DevOps team, including maintenance of infrastructure as code, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Provide strategic direction for infrastructure development and operations, aligning with organisational goals.
- Manage and mentor a team of DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor, support, and maintain infrastructure, applications, and user operations, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Develop and enforce security policies to safeguard systems against cybersecurity threats.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines for data and software products.
- Advocate for and implement tools, processes, and methodologies to enhance the software development life cycle.
- Partner with engineering teams to provide enterprise-level architectural solutions based on industry best practices.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to continuously improve infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Requirements:
- 5-7 years of experience working as a DevOps Engineer
- Minimum of 2 years experience leading a DevOps team or equivalent technical leadership role.
- Advanced experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
- Expertise in managing web application infrastructure using PHP, Apache, Nginx, DNS, SSL certificates, CDNs, and deployment pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar
- Proficient in architecting scalable software solutions following best practices.
- Development experience to guide teams in adhering to coding and deployment best practices.
- Experience with Internal Developer Portals and developer self-service automation -highly desired.
- Strong knowledge of EC2 configuration management using Ansible – strongly desired
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong sense of ownership
- AWS certifications – strongly desired
