Role Overview - Must currently reside in Florida for consideration. In this role, you will help transform a legacy monolithic PHP application into a modern, cloud-native, microservice-oriented architecture on AWS. You will play a key role in API-driven development, service decoupling, and cloud modernization while working within an Agile Scrum environment. You will collaborate closely with engineering, DevOps, product, QA, and analytics teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality backend services. Key Responsibilities Drive the decoupling of a legacy PHP monolith into domain-driven microservices and APIs Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Symfony (or equivalent MVC frameworks) and Doctrine ORM Architect and implement RESTful APIs with strong documentation, testing, and versioning practices Build and integrate third-party APIs with a focus on performance, scalability, and security Partner with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to design and deploy AWS-based solutions Utilize AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, API Gateway, RDS, and CloudWatch Containerize applications using Docker and manage orchestration via Kubernetes or ECS Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for reliable and rapid deployments Leverage Infrastructure-as-Code tools to ensure reproducible environments Participate in architectural discussions, code reviews, and cross-functional planning Work within an Agile Scrum framework, including sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives Collaborate with Product, QA, and Analytics to ensure alignment and data integrity Qualifications 3+ years of professional backend development experience with PHP (Symfony preferred) Strong understanding of microservice architecture and API-first design Proven experience deploying and managing applications on AWS Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines Familiarity with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar IaC tools Strong understanding of third-party API integration patterns and error handling Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment Proficiency with Git, software design patterns, and code quality best practices Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills What Sets You Apart AWS certification (Developer Associate or Solutions Architect) Experience with Symfony 6, Doctrine ORM, or similar frameworks Knowledge of serverless architecture using AWS Lambda and API Gateway Familiarity with event-driven architectures (SNS/SQS, Kafka, streaming platforms) Background in travel, hospitality, entertainment, or ticketing systems Experience with observability tools such as New Relic, Datadog, CloudWatch, or ELK Strong understanding of cloud security best practices (IAM, least privilege, encryption) Experience mentoring developers or leading small Agile teams
