The Upright Citizens Brigade Training Center seeks knowledgeable, passionate instructors to teach our Intro to Stand Up Comedy course and/or other stand-up-focused classes and workshops. UCB teachers should be invested in creating a positive, constructive, and inclusive learning environment for our students. UCB takes learning the craft of stand-up seriously, but the courses should be fun and affirming experiences for our students. The position reports to the Senior Academic Director.
Flexible schedule: This position requires 3-9 hours per week. Our class sessions are 2.5 hours for online and 3 hours for in-person.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creating a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and creative educational environment that maximizes students’ learning.
- Delivering clear, concise, effective instructional activities and objectives in accordance with UCB’s approved curriculum and policies.
- Managing student behavior in the classroom in accordance with UCB’s policies.
- Completing student assessments at the end of each course in a timely manner.
- Recording and monitoring the attendance of students in a timely manner.
- Participating in staff, group, or other meetings related to administrative or curricular improvements of the Training Center.
- Participating in various additional trainings as prescribed by the Training Center.
- Minimum two years’ experience performing and or/teaching stand-up comedy preferred
- Prior performing arts teaching or coaching experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with UCB’s style of teaching and general approach to comedy preferred
- Proven ability to lead a group of adults while maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for all students
- Ability to deliver positive & constructive feedback to students in a supportive way
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Professional and friendly demeanor
