As a Database Administrator’s role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune the corporate database environment. Additionally, this role includes maintaining high levels of data availability plus creating, implementing and
operating a database recovery strategy. This individual is also responsible for developing,
implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures that ensure the security and integrity of the corporate database environment. DBA is responsible for maintaining and adding to the existing different data replication tools in use.
DBA is also responsible for monitoring for notifications and fixing failed SQL Server jobs, replication, permissions, database configuration, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor database system details within thedatabase, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
- Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
- Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
- Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
- Design and implement redundant systems, backup and restore tools, and dynamic options for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of corporate data assets.
- Work with application development staff to develop database architecture, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Work with Walton BI team on managing and maintaining reports, dashboards, and any data analysis technologies
- Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
- Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
- Conduct research and make recommendations on database technologies, services, protocols, and standards in support of application development efforts.
- Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels and perform when required database transaction and security audits.
- Document all policies, procedures, and methodologies relating to the administration of the corporate database environment.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the team where applicable
Requirements
Must-have Skills/Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information
- Systems, or a related field, and 3 years equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
- Experienced in supporting SQL Server IaaS and PaaS, Azure SQL Server
- Experienced in setting up SQL Replication and Mirroring
- Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices
- Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services
- Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
- Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
