Position Overview
As the Junior Java Developer your primary task is to learn everything you can about software development, including the SDLC, coding best practices, code documentation, code testing and quality assurance, and working in agile projects. You develop a comprehensive skillset with the aim to become a developer II within 1.5 years. Your mentor, a senior software developer, will assign tasks of a broad variety to you that follow a curriculum assigned to achieve the primary goal. This can include software tests, the investigation and fixing of issues in the code, the development of small applications or the refactoring of existing code. Depending on your learning progress, you will be involved in scrum teams and become increasingly independent in your work on software development tasks.
Job Responsibilities
- Assisting the Development Manager with all aspects of software design and coding.
- Learning the codebase and improving coding skills.
- Writing and maintaining code.
- Working on bug fixes.
- Monitoring the technical performance of internal systems.
- Responding to requests from the development team.
- Writing reports and documentation.
- Implementing unit tests.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Computer Science degree or equivalent
- At least one year of post-graduate experience in Java development and working with relational databases
- Good understanding of OO programming principals and commitment to clean, efficient, well documented code.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with J2EE, Tomcat, JBoss
- Experience with enterprise software development
