Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Junior Finance Automation Engineer to design, build, and maintain automated systems that power financial operations across the organization. This role sits at the intersection of financial operations, software engineering, and data automation—building tools that enable accurate reporting, streamlined workflows, and compliant financial processes.

You will work on projects that impact how employees interact with financial systems and how leadership understands company performance. This role requires technical fluency, strong systems thinking, and enough financial literacy to ensure tools are accurate, compliant, and scalable.

Your Impact

  • Improve the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of financial workflows through automation.
  • Enhance visibility into financial performance through automated reporting and dashboards.
  • Strengthen compliance across subsidiaries by systematizing reporting and documentation.
  • Reduce manual work for the finance, accounting, and operations teams.

Core Responsibilities

Financial Automation & Tooling

  • Design and develop internal automation tools and financial workflows.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines connecting systems such as Brex, Plaid, ERP tools, and internal databases.
  • Implement no-code/low-code automation using platforms like n8n.
  • Write SQL and design database structures to support accurate reporting.

Reporting & Analysis Support

  • Generate and maintain automated financial reports and models.
  • Support analysis requests from finance, accounting, and leadership teams.
  • Build dashboards and visualizations for key metrics.
  • Streamline multi-subsidiary financial reporting.

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Create tools that support government compliance requirements.
  • Design systems that balance compliance, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure extensibility and future integration readiness in all tools.
  • Document processes, system design, and architecture.

Requirements

Must-Haves (Required)

  • Strong proficiency in Python (data processing, automation, API integration)
  • Experience with REST API integrations
  • Data engineering skills: parsing, transformation, ETL pipelines
  • Strong SQL experience (PostgreSQL or similar)
  • Experience with no/low-code automation tools (n8n, Zapier, Make)
  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Understanding of revenue recognition, accrual vs. cash accounting
  • Basic understanding of GL accounts and chart of accounts
  • High trustworthiness, discretion, and ethical judgment when handling sensitive data
  • Strong communication and documentation habits

Nice-to-Haves (Preferred)

  • Experience with React or JavaScript frameworks
  • Docker and containerization experience
  • Familiarity with machine learning/data science libraries (e.g., Pytorch)
  • Experience with Git or similar version control systems
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (DCAA, FAR)
