Junior Distressed Credit Analyst

$80,000 per year

TLDR

Join a fast-growing startup as a junior analyst, driving accurate distressed credit analysis while engaging with key market participants and impacting high-stakes financial decisions.

About 9fin

9fin is the AI platform powering global debt markets — the world’s largest asset class at over $145 trillion.

Debt markets are vast, global, and mission-critical, yet still run on fragmented data, PDFs, and manual workflows. 9fin replaces this broken infrastructure with a single platform that centralises proprietary credit data, deep analysis, and high-value workflows across global markets.

Today, 9fin powers teams at 300+ blue-chip institutions worldwide, including global banks, asset managers, private equity firms, law firms, and advisors. The business is scaling at exceptional speed, with rapid expansion in the US and best-in-class retention driven by deep workflow adoption.

We’re at a defining inflection point. With proven product-market fit and strong, global market pull, 9fin is accelerating toward becoming the category-defining platform for debt markets worldwide.

The opportunity

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented junior analyst to join our distressed credit team. This role will be crucial in maintaining and expanding our restructuring data offering, ensuring its accuracy and utility for our clients. You will be responsible for the end-to-end process of data management, from overseeing data entry to producing insightful analysis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong analytical mindset and an interest in the distressed and restructuring landscape.

What you'll work on

Every day is different, but here’s an example of the kind of things you’ll work on:

  • Produce timely, accurate analysis of distressed credit situations across the US leveraged finance and high yield markets, supporting 9fin’s editorial coverage

  • Monitor developments across a portfolio of distressed issuers, tracking covenant breaches, rating actions, liquidity events, and out-of-court restructuring activity

  • Build and maintain financial models tracking capital structure, debt maturity profiles, and recovery scenarios for companies in or approaching distress

  • Assist senior reporters and editors in researching and fact-checking longer-form investigative pieces on liability management exercises, Chapter 11 cases, and creditor disputes

  • Contribute to 9fin’s Default Notice newsletter and other recurring content products covering the distressed and restructuring landscape

  • Engage with market participants including lawyers, advisors, and buyside investors to develop source relationships and gather market intelligence

About you

This role will be a great fit if:

  • Have 0–2 years of experience in leveraged finance, credit analysis, restructuring advisory, or financial journalism

  • Possess a strong understanding of corporate capital structures, credit agreements, and the mechanics of debt restructuring

  • Are a clear and concise writer, capable of translating complex financial situations into accessible analysis for sophisticated market participants

  • Have strong Excel and financial modelling skills; familiarity with Bloomberg or other financial data terminals is a plus

  • Are curious, self-directed, and able to manage multiple competing deadlines without sacrificing accuracy

  • Have a genuine interest in distressed credit and the legal, financial, and operational dynamics of companies under pressure
