About the team:
Do you believe in automating ourselves out of our jobs? With our company growth, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. Join a fast-growing and talented Backend AI Team to build a modern, robust, and scalable platform that accelerates the rollout of innovative features for millions of users worldwide!
About the role:
This junior to mid-level role (ideal for someone early in their DevOps journey) is based in the Asia timezone (remote or in our Singapore office), where you'll work closely under experienced mentors, focusing on providing around-the-sun coverage, reducing reliance on a single point of expertise, and enhancing system resiliency through peer reviews and operational improvements.
This is the role for you, if you’re excited to work on the things listed below:
- Design, build, and maintain the Goodnotes infrastructure, ensuring it adheres to Dickerson’s Hierarchy of Reliability.
- Build CI/CD pipelines for AI Infrastructure workloads.
- Be the go-to person for higher-level escalations for applications.
- Improve system monitoring, health reporting, and logging, including revising platform and application alerts across all regions and features.
- Design and implement security measures, while assisting in maintaining information security practices and procedures, such as updating platform versions, patching security packages, and optimizing costs.
- Contribute to offloading initiatives for new projects, such as self-hosted inference and training platforms, while improving Backend DevEx through peer reviews and automation.
In this role, you'll start by reviewing existing systems under mentorship and grow into a Direct Responsible Individual (DRI) for larger projects in infrastructure, automation, and Backend AI DevEx (e.g., AI reviews or FinOps). Performance will be measured by key metrics like VictorOps SLA adherence, time to patch issues/upgrades, and minimizing downtime. The role offers strong growth prospects in a collaborative environment, with impact on global operational efficiency and team resiliency.
The Tech Stack
- Monitoring and Logging: We currently use Datadog for monitoring, APM, logging, CI/CD optimization, and budget/cost management.
- Infrastructure-as-Code: Most of our infrastructure is defined in Terraform using Atlantis.
- CI/CD: We use GitHub Actions for our backend applications.
- Deployments: We manage multiple EKS clusters for canary rollouts or dedicated feature sets, using ArgoCD/Argo Rollout and Helm for workload configurations.
- AI infrastructure: Integrations with external AI providers, large-scale backend with agentic applications, and self-hosted inference and training platforms.
The skills you will need to be successful in the above:
- 2-5 years of hands-on experience in DevOps practices (junior to mid-level; more experienced candidates are welcome, but we prioritize potential and eagerness to learn under mentorship).
- Familiarity with large-scale AI systems, including agentic/RAG applications or inference/training platforms.
- Background in back-end development, including API usage and creation (preferably in Python or Go).
- Basic understanding of Linux and networking fundamentals.
- Basic understanding of network and container security.
- Proven experience with AWS products.
- Proven experience in container orchestration, with a particular emphasis on Kubernetes.
- Proven track record in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven experience managing relational and non-relational databases, including backup and restore operations.
- Proven experience with automation/configuration management tools like Terraform.
- Hands-on DevOps experience with Linux, AWS, networking, Kubernetes, and containers (non-negotiable).
- Proven experience with GitHub Actions for automation.
- Preferable: Scripting languages like Python or Golang; monitoring tools for metrics, logs, and traces; familiarity with LLM adoption in daily work, including understanding trade-offs.
- Openness to learning, taking feedback positively, and learning from failures.
Even if you don’t meet all the criteria listed above, we would still love to hear from you! Goodnotes places a lot of value on learning and development and will support your growth if needed.
The interview process:
- Introductory call with someone from our talent acquisition team. They want to hear more about your background, what you are looking for, and why you’d like to join Goodnotes.
