Objective: Supply Wisdom is seeking a seasoned Senior Database Engineer with a passion for building and optimizing highly reliable and scalable data architectures. In this pivotal role, you'll be at the heart of defining and implementing our database strategy, focusing on enhancing reliability, throughput, scalability, and security across our backend systems. Working closely with our DevOps/SRE team, you will play a crucial role in administering, maintaining, and securing our data infrastructure, which includes S3, PostgreSQL, Redshift, and future data platforms.
As the Senior Database Engineer, your responsibilities will include executing operational DBA duties such as installation, database upgrades, patching, and implementing comprehensive backup/recovery and monitoring procedures. You'll lead the charge in capacity planning, site failover/switchover operations, and participate in high availability and disaster recovery planning/drills.
Responsibilities
- Database Support & Development: Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and security. Collaborate with senior DB engineers and DevOps/SRE teams across AWS services (e.g., S3, PostgreSQL, Redshift).
- Operational Support: Perform day-to-day DBA tasks such as database provisioning, monitoring, backups, and basic patching. Support upgrade activities and assist in backup/recovery operations.
- Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Help monitor database performance and identify slow queries or bottlenecks. Assist in basic query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning under guidance.
- Change Management Assistance: Support database change requests by validating scripts, documenting changes, and ensuring adherence to established standards and processes.
- Data Engineering Support: Assist in maintaining data pipelines and writing scripts for data migration and transformation. Contribute to schema updates and automation tasks using tools like Django ORM or similar.
- Documentation & Observability: Maintain clear documentation of database systems, processes, and changes. Help implement basic monitoring and alerting for database health.
- Cloud & Infrastructure Support: Assist with managing and maintaining database environments in AWS, including RDS/Aurora and related services.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience in database engineering, software engineering, or a related field (internships/projects acceptable).
- Basic understanding of PostgreSQL (or similar relational databases), including writing SQL queries and understanding schema design.
- Familiarity with AWS concepts and services such as RDS, EC2, or S3 (hands-on experience is a plus).
- Working knowledge of Linux systems, including basic commands and scripting.
- Basic proficiency in Python or a similar programming language; exposure to ORMs (e.g., Django ORM) is a plus.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Eagerness to learn database technologies, performance tuning, and cloud infrastructure.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Good time management skills and ability to track tasks and follow through on assignments.
