About This Role:
The Journeyman Electrical Commissioning Technician is responsible for the installation verification, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems within the Modular Data Center (Spark) and Power Distribution Center (PDC) product lines. This role ensures all work is executed in accordance with NEC (National Electrical Code) and applicable industry standards from material receipt through final energization and turnover.
Responsibilities include performing pre-functional checks, functional testing, and system validation to confirm all equipment operates as designed. The technician actively inspects installations, identifies deficiencies, and corrects or escalates issues to maintain workmanship standards and ensure code-compliant, defect-free systems.
This role is hands-on throughout the build and commissioning process from energizing every system, performing FAT (Factory acceptance testing), coordinating with engineering and production teams, and ensuring systems are fully prepared for energization and customer turnover.
What You’ll Be Working On:
Build Compliance Audit: Walk each installation and make sure conduit runs are straight, supports are solid and spaced correctly, and cable entries are clean, deburred, and protected with grommets—making sure the work is done right the first time.
Labeling & Identification: Check that all nameplates, warning labels, and circuit IDs are correct, legible, and installed exactly as the project drawings call for—so anyone can understand the system at a glance.
Physical Integrity Checks: Test non-energized connections by pulling, tugging, and verifying torque, ensuring everything is tight, solid, and ready for safe operation.
Non-Conformance Reporting: Spot and document any electrical defects—like damaged insulators, dented panels, or wrong wire sizes—and work with the production team to fix or escalate issues before they become a problem.
Shipping Readiness & Protection: Make sure sensitive electrical penetrations are sealed, and internal components are secured so the unit can survive shipping without damage.
Documentation & Traceability: Keep clear logs and photos of the system’s condition at the time of shipment, and make sure all loose components (breakers, jumpers, etc.) are accounted for and packed properly.
FAT & Commissioning: Lead the energization, functional testing, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of electrical systems, ensuring all units operate safely and as designed, and oversee final turnover to the customer.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Technical training in electrical assembly or industrial maintenance is preferred.
Experience: 2+ years of experience in electrical assembly or inspection within an industrial manufacturing environment. Journeyman/Master Electrician License is required.
Technical Expertise: Ability to read and interpret electrical BOMs (Bills of Materials), general arrangement drawings, and basic wiring diagrams.
System Knowledge: Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and the ability to use digital tablets or ERP software for logging inspection results.
Soft Skills: A high level of attention to detail and the ability to identify subtle workmanship issues that could lead to long-term reliability problems.
Operational Attributes: Ability to work inside tight enclosure spaces and perform inspections at various heights within the modular units.
Safety and Compliance: This position is designated a safety-sensitive position and/or is located in a safety-sensitive facility. Experience with energized systems and NFPA 70E safety requirements. Drug and alcohol program participation is required. Must be able to pass a background check.
Bonus Points:
Proficient in Google Suite.
Experience in UL50, UL508, UL508A, UL891.
Experience with NEMA enclosure ratings and ingress protection (IP) sealing standards.
Familiarity with 5S or Lean manufacturing environments.
Previous experience in a "Shipping/Receiving" role specifically for heavy industrial electrical equipment.
