The Opportunity:

Clarion Defence & Security is a division of Clarion that delivers world-class defence events, such as DSEI, connecting global industry leaders and driving innovation worldwide.

As part of this division, we are seeking a talented and passionate individual to join a new team and digital product we are developing for DSEI. This product will offer members access to bespoke events and exclusive content to help them succeed in the defence industry.

As a defence journalist based in our London office you will write high-quality, timely news articles and features on the defence industry for our new digital product as well as deliver a monthly supplier newsletter. Your passion for uncovering compelling stories will be essential as you conduct interviews and write articles that provide valuable insights to our members, while ensuring the highest editorial standards are upheld.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Craft compelling content: Write concise, engaging articles and features that keep readers informed about the latest developments and opportunities in the defence industry.
  • Conduct thorough research: Gather information from diverse sources, including interviews, documents, and databases.
  • Identify breaking stories: Have a keen eye for uncovering significant news within the defence sector.
  • Write timely articles: Consistently write timely, insightful news and features that are relevant to our members.
  • Ensure consistency: Maintain consistency with content and style.
  • Develop and follow leads: Independently pursue stories and conduct follow-ups.
  • Adapt to changing news: Effectively manage deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ensure accuracy: Verify the reliability of sources and maintain high editorial standards.
  • Build and foster relationships: Cultivate connections with key sources and press departments to gain exclusive insights that are invaluable to our members.
  • Flexible: Willing to work with different content formats, such as podcasts and videos.
  • Represents Clarion: A professional individual that represents Clarion at conferences, events, and public forums.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours:

  • Exceptional proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise, and unbiased news articles, with interview experience as an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Strong news sense and dedication to high standards of accuracy and ethics.
  • Interest in and understanding of defence, technology, trends, and investment; previous experience in these areas is highly desirable.
  • Relevant degree in International Relations, War Studies, Journalism, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Team-oriented mindset with excellent collaborative skills.
  • Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with contacts at all levels.
  • Flexible and resilient, able to adapt quickly to breaking news and perform effectively under pressure.
