We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead the design and implementation of a modern data platform on Microsoft Azure. This role owns pipeline architecture, transformation standards, and technical execution in partnership with the Data Architect. The Senior Data Engineer is accountable for delivery quality and technical decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Lead design and implementation of Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines
- Architect ingestion patterns for API-based and SQL Server data sources
- Define transformation approaches using SQL and ELT patterns
- Design and enforce data quality, validation, and reconciliation logic
- Establish naming conventions, folder structures, and pipeline standards
- Review and guide work produced by mid-level data engineers
- Troubleshoot complex pipeline, performance, and data integrity issues
- Collaborate closely with the Data Architect and Data Product Manager
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge transfer
Requirements:
- Advanced English level
- Strong expertise as a data engineer
- Hands-on, expert-level Azure Data Factory experience
- Advanced SQL skills (complex joins, window functions, performance tuning)
- Proven experience ingesting data via REST APIs
- Strong experience with Azure Data Lake and relational data stores
- Experience leading technical delivery or mentoring engineers
- Ability to make architectural tradeoffs in time-boxed delivery environments
Nice to Have
- Financial services, mortgage, or servicing domain experience
- Experience modernizing on-prem SQL Server environments
- Familiarity with Synapse Analytics
- Experience supporting analytics or reporting teams
- Success Indicators
- Stable, scalable ingestion pipelines early in Phase 2
- Consistent engineering standards across the platform
- Minimal rework due to strong upfront technical decisions
