Java Software Engineer, AI Foundations

Joining Collibra’s AI Foundations team

You will be joining the AI Foundations team, the engine room behind Collibra’s Artificial Intelligence strategy. Our mission is to build the platform and tools that enable other engineering teams to rapidly create and deploy high-quality AI functionalities. We are currently a team of backend experts looking for a partner to lead our frontend initiatives while working across the full stack.

You will play a critical role in defining the user experience of our internal AI platform, ensuring our tools are intuitive for developers and data scientists. Since our frontend surface area is still growing, you will also dive into our Java/Spring backend, helping us build the robust microservices that power the next generation of intelligent data solutions.

This is a hybrid role based in our Prague office. Our hybrid model means you’ll work from the office at least two days each week. This setup helps us stay connected, work more closely together, and keep making progress as a team.

As a Software Engineer at Collibra, you will be responsible for

• Actively participating in team meetings and sharing ideas.
• Knowing your own code by preparing for code reviews and being able to justify design patterns used.
• Understand user persons impacted by code with well defined user stories and concrete inputs and outputs.
• Write clear measurable test cases to validate user stories and assert output on positive and negative results.

You have

• 5+ years experience building scalable Java-based software applications, or 3+ years of experience and a Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Building cloud-native applications in Java & Spring with an eye towards operability, maintainability, and scaling.
• Experience with microservices architecture and multithreading.
• An interest in learning Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and/or ReactJS. 
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent related working experience is required.
• You must have work authorization to work in Prague, CZ.

You are

• Familiar with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and  tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins or GitHub Actions, and willing to deepen knowledge in this area. 
• Passioned about quality, good design, and clean code.
• Willing to share knowledge, to continue expanding your knowledge around new technologies as well as software development best practices.
• You are agile-minded and open to working in dynamic, iterative development environments.

Measures of success are

• Within your first month, you will get familiar with the environment we use, the way we implement software as an organization, participate in virtual stand-up’s, simple business use cases and submit your first code to production.
• Within your third month, you will implement new user stories with quality and care, and understand what value they will bring to our customers. You will recognize areas for improvement and begin to propose ideas to the team during stand-up’s.
• Within your sixth month, you will be a key part of the Edge Team, regularly delivering quality code, participating in testing, and providing constructive input on the design and approaches taken to improve our software.
