TEAM
Legal & IP team is responsible for compliance with the law and the regulations and protection of development results with intellectual property rights for all Woven by Toyota. The mission of our team is to support the business and development of Woven by Toyota and Toyota Motor Corporation from an IP perspective.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for an IP specialist who is passionate about implementing improvements in our patent portfolio based on the patent strategy! Join us in protecting and leveraging the innovative technologies created by Woven by Toyota from an IP perspective, and work together toward realizing a mobility society!
RESPONSIBILITIES
Advancement of patent portfolio such as obtaining patents, conducting third party’s patent clearance activity etc, through the planning and executing of IP strategies that take into account R&D strategies and business strategies
Patent search and analysis vital for patent activity
Obtain patents for computer- / software- / AI- related inventions according to the IP strategy on the relevant R&D theme
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years of experience in refining software-related inventions and drafting patent application claims through discussions with inventors and patent attorneys
Experience in planning and executing a patent strategy for a specific R&D field
Proven experience in determining how to respond to the Office Action in JP and US, especially in US, the impact on claim construction can be considered, such as prosecution estoppel, Phillips standard and Broadest Reasonable Interpretation (BRI) standard etc
Expert knowledge about patent prosecution practices in JP and US, especially on computer-related / software-implemented inventions. e.g. Manual of Patent Examining Procedure and important cases (court decisions) such as Alice
Native or fluent level in Japanese and business level in English (i.g. TOEIC860 and above)
NICE TO HAVES
Ability to understand patent activity objectives such as IP landscape and patent strategy, and to prioritize individual cases accordingly
Understanding the importance of technical contracts, e.g. NDA, Joint Development Agreement etc. for patent activities in collaboration with other companies
Have a general understanding of FOSS
Possess a patent attorney qualification
