Job Summary

The Financial Controls Summer Intern will support the Financial Controls and Internal Audit teams in evaluating, enhancing, and monitoring the company's internal control environment. This internship offers hands-on experience in SOX compliance, risk assessment, and control testing activities within the insurance industry.

Organization

This position will report directly to the Senior Financial Controls Advisor and collaborate with members of the Financial Controls, Internal Audit, and other cross-functional teams throughout F&G. This position provides exposure to all levels of management across the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Control Testing and Documentation: Participate in testing internal controls over financial reporting, review supporting documentation, and assist with control evaluation procedures
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with team members to identify and implement process improvements that strengthen internal controls and enhance operational efficiency
  • Risk Assessment Support: Work with the Financial Controls team to identify potential risks and control weaknesses in financial processes and systems
  • Audit Support: Support internal and external audit processes by gathering documentation, conducting research, and responding to audit inquiries
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare reports and summaries of internal control findings, emerging trends, and recommendations for management review
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various departments to gather information, identify control gaps, and develop solutions
  • Documentation Maintenance: Maintain accurate and current documentation of internal control processes, procedures, and test results
  • Special Projects: Contribute to ad-hoc projects and initiatives related to internal controls, SOX compliance, and regulatory requirements as assigned

Experience and Education

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) within major
  • Preferred: Junior or senior standing (or graduate student)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Interest in pursuing a career in financial services, audit, or compliance (preferred)
