DS Consultants Ltd. is currently seeking Intermediate or Senior Geotechnical Field Technician to join our team in the Cambridge office. Responsibilities:


  • Provide technical services in a field, office, and laboratory environment
  • Duties can include but not limited to site inspections, material testing (soil, asphalt, concrete) using a nuclear gauge, material sampling, data collection and general geotechnical work supervision
  • Providing technical assistance in materials related projects and tasks, including carrying out field and laboratory testing of various materials on construction sites, in-situ density testing and testing of concrete and asphalt materials
  • Working on all assignments on projects of low to high complexity
  • Soil/rock identification and assist junior staff to prepare field reports
  • Completing analysis of information and report preparation
  • Ensuring workplace health and safety practices are followed at all times

 

Qualifications:


  • Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Technologist Diploma or Civil Engineering Degree
  • Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist (C.Tech/C.E.T.), Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.), Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligible for Engineer –in- Training (E.I.T.) status – preferred
  • 5-10 years related experience in geotechnical engineering field inspections
  • Proficiency with common geotechnical and other software; Familiar with Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) test procedure and requirements, and local municipal standards and specifications
  • Good understanding of geotechnical principles
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical concepts, materials and asphalt
  • Must be mobile and willing to work on a combination of field and office work, as travel will be required
  • Strong workplace health and safety practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer usage
  • Ability able to carry out assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs as required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong report writing skills and verbal communication in English are essential
  • You demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate effectively and to proactively respond to time-sensitive issues
  • An Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
