Job Summary
The Instrument Technician will be responsible for the calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of field instruments and control systems used in casting and forging plant operations. The role requires strong hands-on experience with temperature, pressure, flow, and level instrumentation, along with control systems and safety interlocks to ensure reliable and safe plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation Maintenance & Calibration
• Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot temperature sensors including thermocouples and RTDs
• Maintain and calibrate pyrometers used in furnace and heat treatment operations
• Service and calibrate pressure transmitters, pressure gauges, and differential pressure instruments
• Maintain flow meters and level transmitters used in casting and process systems
Control Valves & Actuators
• Maintain and troubleshoot control valves and actuators (pneumatic / electrical)
• Perform valve stroke testing and loop checking
• Ensure accurate control response and positioning
Control Systems & Automation
• Assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of PLC systems and control panels
• Support SCADA and HMI systems, including basic diagnostics and fault identification
• Perform loop checking, signal verification, and I/O testing
Specialized Instrumentation
• Maintain and calibrate gas analyzers, load cells, and vibration sensors
• Ensure proper functioning of safety interlock and alarm systems
• Test emergency shutdown and safety systems as per procedures
Safety & Compliance
• Follow all instrumentation safety procedures, permit systems, and HSE guidelines
• Use appropriate PPE and safe work practices during maintenance activities
• Maintain accurate calibration records, inspection logs, and maintenance documentation
Experience Requirement
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial instrumentation maintenance
• Proven experience in casting and forging plants or heavy industrial environments
• Experience handling furnace-related instrumentation is highly preferred
Skills & Competencies
• Strong understanding of industrial instrumentation and calibration techniques
• Ability to read P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrument datasheets
• Good troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team
Work Environment & Conditions
• Plant-based role in casting and forging facilities
• Exposure to heat, dust, noise, and industrial processes
• Shift-based work with overtime applicable as per operational needs
