The Middlebury College Summer School of Italian is pleased to announce vacancies for a temporary Instructor of Italian. The position is located on the Bennington College campus in Vermont and will either be seven, six or three weeks depending on the needs of the school. The Italian School will be in session June 26 to August 14, 2026.

Our unique immersion and graduate programs combine a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is an opportunity to join a community of learners, by actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing and recreating with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in Italian.

We are looking for a faculty member with experience teaching Italian as a second language in the U.S. and experience teaching Italian grammar, writing, culture, in levels 1 to 4.

We are also looking for a faculty member with experience teaching Italian as a second language in the U.S. and the ability to teach graduate level courses in Public Art, History of the Italian Language and/or Opera.

Faculty members are expected to live in the dormitories and use the same facilities as students. They are also required to eat all of their meals in the cafeteria alongside students. In addition to regular teaching duties, all faculty members must participate in a variety of co-curricular cultural activities on weeknights and weekends.

 

Qualifications

Successful candidates should possess a PHD strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrated success working as a member of an instructional team. A candidate with a creative, dynamic, and easy-going approach will be an excellent fit with the School of Italian.

In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided.

This position is for summer 2026.
