Innovation Center Technician

The Innovation Center Technician plays a key role in bringing customer packaging ideas to life by setting up machinery and conducting sample runs for demonstrations and evaluations. This hands-on position ensures Innovation Center equipment is properly maintained, operates efficiently, and supports innovation initiatives that enhance the customer experience.

 

Time Utilization: 

Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Flexibility is required to accommodate customer visits and project timelines. Occasional travel (up to 5%) may be required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Provide technical guidance to customers on package design, machine settings, and configurations tailored to their project requirements.
  • Serve as a professional and knowledgeable representative of Multivac in customer interactions.
  • Set up and operate Innovation Center equipment using in-stock or custom-designed tooling to produce customer samples.
  • Thoroughly document each trial using CRM software, including photos, material specs, machine settings, and professional insights.
  • Collaborate with internal and external film suppliers to test and validate packaging materials.
  • Work closely with the Design Engineering team on custom tooling designs; provide feedback and insights post-sample trials.
  • Prepare all required materials—films, products, and tooling—ahead of customer demonstrations to ensure seamless execution.
  • Support showroom operations by setting up and tearing down machinery as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready showroom and sample bay.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving technical issues with Innovation Center equipment.

 

Qualifications: 

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for innovation in packaging technology.

 

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years' experience in field service, packaging, manufacturing, or equipment maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  At least 2 years of hands-on experience with packaging machinery required.  Multivac equipment experience is a plus.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, safety protocols, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write clear reports and speak confidently in front of groups, including customers and internal teams.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute ratios and percentages.  Ability to interpret data using graphs and charts.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions from abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Must have aptitude to learn and use ERP systems such as SAP & C4C to perform duties.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

Current valid driver’s license and ability to obtain forklift certification.

This position is based in a hands-on, dynamic environment with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.

 

Noise levels are within OSHA guidelines (below 80 dB), and hearing protection is provided when necessary.

 

Physical Demands:

  • This role involves standing, walking, and physical motion for extended periods.
  • Occasionally required to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Visual acuity for close and distance work is essential.
  • Hearing, i.e. perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
