Indium Foils Engineer Expert - Remote

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer to join our team in the development, processing, and production of high-purity Indium foils for advanced applications. This role bridges R&D, process optimization, and scaled production, supporting innovations in materials used across industries such as electronics, semiconductors, and photovoltaics.

Key Responsibilities:

R&D:

  • Develop and optimize formulations and techniques for indium foil production.
  • Conduct material characterization (e.g., purity analysis, thickness control, mechanical and thermal properties).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new product development and customer-specific requirements.
  • Support testing of foil performance under various environmental and operational conditions.

Process Development:

  • Design and refine production processes for consistency, repeatability, and scalability.
  • Implement process control methodologies (e.g., SPC, Six Sigma, DOE).
  • Develop SOPs, work instructions, and quality documentation for foil manufacturing.
  • Investigate and resolve process-related issues with a focus on root cause analysis.

Production Support:

  • Oversee daily foil production operations, ensuring quality, throughput, and yield targets are met.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to troubleshoot equipment and process bottlenecks.
  • Train operators and technicians on new procedures and equipment.
  • Monitor and document KPIs, conducting periodic audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years experience in thin metal processing, materials development, or foil production (indium preferred, but not required).
  • Experience with metallurgical equipment (rolling mills, furnaces, cutting/slitting machines).
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, crystallography, and metal deformation behavior.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or equivalent quality management systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in data analysis tools (Excel, JMP, Minitab, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with indium or other soft, ductile metals (e.g., gold, tin, silver).
  • Knowledge of vacuum or cleanroom processes.
  • Experience in scaling up R&D processes to production.
  • Understanding of supply chain and raw material sourcing for specialty metals.
