About the Role
As an Index Production Analyst, you will participate in the daily calculation and periodic maintenance of Syntax’s indices, as well as process enhancements, data pipeline setups, and related documentation. You will gain a well-rounded understanding of the indexing process, from basket construction to data dissemination, including long-only equity indices built from Syntax’s company classification data and highly customized indices that mix asset classes, leverage, tactical allocation, and more.
This role is currently a hybrid position, requiring in-person presence at our New York City office Tuesday through Thursday.
Responsibilities will include:
Contributing enhancements and bug fixes to the codebase for daily index production
Building and running processes for periodic reconstitution and rebalancing of indices
Running daily processes to calculate indices, generate reports, and publish data
Researching and implementing corporate actions that affect equity index constituents
Maintaining financial instrument lists and reference data mappings
Participating in quality assurance and control processes
Responding to internal and external stakeholder questions about index files, SFTP accounts, and related topics
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree (or comparable work experience) in a quantitative, analytical, or technical field such as Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, Math, Statistics, or Economics
Experience programming in Python
Proficiency with Excel for analytical or financial use
Clear and precise communication; attention to detail
Ability to interpret and apply mathematical models for portfolio performance
Preferred skills:
2+ years of experience in indexing, portfolio management, or related financial data workflows
Advanced degree in quantitative, analytical or technical field
Experience with handling corporate actions in equity indices
Experience using APIs and the pandas package with Python
Experience using Macros and VBA with Excel
Familiarity with object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts
Experience with data cleaning and handling missing data
Technical writing experience
Comfortable working in dynamic environments with ongoing efforts to improve planning and operational predictability
Strong collaboration skills; responsive to stakeholder needs
Experience with AWS or other cloud-based workflow tools
Experience with GitHub and SQL
Familiarity with Bloomberg, LSEG Workspace, or other financial data platforms
Solid understanding of finance and accounting for publicly traded equities Knowledge of financial statistics (e.g., risk/return comparisons, attribution analysis)
