ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

POSITION SUMMARY:
The World Relief Chicagoland (WRC) Immigration Legal Services (ILS) department provides low-cost immigration legal counsel and representation to the immigrant community and is looking to temporarily expand its legal team. The ILS team seeks a licensed attorney who will be trained to provide direct legal counsel and representation to refugees and other immigrants as needed. Based in the Chicago office, this position will support a caseload throughout Chicagoland and will include seeing clients from the Chicago/DuPage/Aurora offices with occasional remote work available. Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish is required.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Immigration Legal Counsel and Representation
Legally screen and advise clients regarding immigration benefits and remedies available under the INA, CFR, and relevant government agency policies
Represent an appropriate case load as determined by client demands under the supervision of the Managing Attorney
Conduct legal research, prepare immigration paperwork, and write responses to Requests for Evidence, Notice of Intent to Deny, and Notice of Intent to Review correspondence
Represent clients in person at USCIS interviews and possible “re-interviews”
Zealously advocate for clients with relevant government actors
Comply with WRC ILS best practice case management rules, policies and procedures and attorney ethics under the oversight of the Managing Attorney
Specific projects as assigned by the ILS Director, Managing Attorney, or ILS Manager
Immigration Case Management and Legal Training
Participate in immigration law trainings relevant to experience and needed expertise
Receive case management training on LawLogix as well as the case management protocols of the ILS department of World Relief Chicagoland
Actively engage in ongoing immigration legal trainings, webinars, roundtables, and research in order to maintain the necessary knowledge and experience under the oversight of the Managing Attorney
Participate in weekly application case review time and case questions meetings as assigned.

Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish is required
Cross-cultural experience including cross-cultural communication skills and working with interpreters
Excellent problem-solving skills and flexibility to work in a frequently changing environment
An attorney (J.D.) licensed to practice law in the United States
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Committed to developing and investing in a strong ILS team speaking and writing skills
Experience preparing asylum cases is preferred
