Job Summary
Lauren is seeking a Senior Process Engineer specializing in pipeline and piping hydraulics to lead advanced steady-state and transient analysis for oil & gas pipeline systems and facility piping networks. This role involves modeling, evaluating, and mitigating hydraulic phenomena such as water hammer, surge, slugging, and other transient events to ensure a safe and reliable system design. The successful candidate will integrate hydraulics expertise into process engineering deliverables, support multi-discipline teams, and provide technical leadership across all project phases.
Responsibilities
- Perform steady-state and transient hydraulic analysis for pipelines and facility piping systems, including surge, water hammer, slugging, and pressure transients.
- Develop and validate hydraulic models using industry-standard software; prepare detailed engineering reports and recommendations.
- Define mitigation strategies for transient events (e.g., surge relief systems, valve sequencing, control logic).
- Integrate hydraulics results into process design, equipment sizing, and operability strategies.
- Review and develop engineering drawings and documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, control narratives).
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (CSA, ASME, API, AER).
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients; provide clear technical communication and presentations.
- Support commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting activities related to hydraulic performance.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- An advanced degree in a related discipline is an asset.
- P.Eng. designation with APEGA and/or EGBC required/eligible.
- US P.E. designation is an asset
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in pipeline and facility hydraulics engineering.
- Extensive experience with transient and steady-state analysis for oil & gas systems.
- Proven ability to model and analyze scenarios such as water hammer, surge, slugging, and pump/compressor trips.
- Familiarity with oil & gas pipelines, compression facilities, and gathering systems.
Skills
Software Proficiency:
- Hydraulic modeling: Synergi Pipeline Simulator, AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse (or equivalent).
- Process simulation: Aspen HYSYS, VMG Symmetry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex hydraulic scenarios.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction.
- Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings and documentation.
Abilities
- Lead hydraulic analysis workstreams independently and within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Diagnose and resolve operational issues related to surge and transient events.
- Mentor junior engineers and elevate team technical standards.
- Manage multiple priorities and deliverables in a hybrid work environment.
Knowledge
- Transient Phenomena: Water hammer, surge, slugging, valve dynamics, pump/compressor trip scenarios.
- Codes & Standards: CSA, ASME, API, AER, and industry best practices for pipeline and facility design.
- Digital Tools: Familiarity with digital authentication (ConsignO) and mark-up software (Bluebeam).
