Human Resources and Professional Development (HR/PD) Intern

Please note that this internship is only for current college students who are attending a college/university within driving distance to our office in Durham, NC.

The Human Resources and Professional Development (HR/PD) Intern will be exposed to many functions of human resources and the firm’s professional development programs.  The intern will be involved in project-based work and daily operational activities, including onboarding and termination processing, benefits and recognition program support, maintenance of internal systems and personnel records, and coordination of training activities. This role will also assist with organizing content, managing knowledge assets, and supporting internal communications.  This position is responsible for interacting with and supporting firm management and Clarkston stewards across these areas.

What You’ll Do

As an HR/PD Intern at Clarkston Consulting you will:

  • Provide support for various aspects of the onboarding and offboarding process including sending welcome and alumni gifts, updating internal systems, and closing out personnel files
  • Assist with the update and maintenance of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS); this includes handling confidential and sensitive personnel information and conducting periodic audits to ensure required documents and systems are up to date
  • Assist HR team in the coordination of the firm’s performance appraisal processes (e.g., preparing/compiling employee annual review documentation, tracking and electronically filing of performance appraisals, etc.)
  • Coordinate the administration of the firm’s various reward and recognition programs (e.g., matching charitable contributions, anniversary awards, etc.)
  • Complete employment verification requests
  • Assist with weekly and monthly departmental reporting
  • Provide general administrative support to the HR team, including intranet management, filing, employee document/record management, and assisting with company mailings
  • Organize and maintain training content, templates, and tools within SharePoint
  • Coordinate training logistics including tracking attendance and capturing feedback and assessment data
  • Help maintain and organize knowledge assets to ensure accessibility and accuracy
  • Draft internal communications including newsletters, training announcements, and other firm-wide updates
  • Assist with various HR/PD duties and projects as assigned

Miscellaneous

This position will be hybrid with opportunities to work on-site as well as remotely. The HR/PD Intern must have transportation to our corporate office in Durham, NC.

Our office hours are 8:30 am-5:30 pm Monday - Friday. We are seeking an intern to work 10-20 hours per week during standard office hours during the school year and full-time during the summer. We are flexible in creating a standard work week to fit a student’s class schedule.

Requirements

What We're Looking For:

  • A sophomore or junior currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university
  • Proficient in MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional attention to detail and well-developed organizational skills
  • Proven capacity to handle and work with a high level of confidential material and information
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Skilled at working independently, multitasking, and thriving in a fast-paced office environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a major in Business Administration/Human Resources, or other related coursework
  • Experience with DocuSign and SharePoint
