AI overview

Shape and build a future-focused HR function that drives performance and engagement in a collaborative, fast-growing tech environment.

About Dots Africa:

At Dots Africa, we power trust. As South Africa’s leading background screening and digital identity verification company, we’re building intelligent, secure systems that help businesses make better hiring, onboarding, and compliance decisions — instantly and at scale.

We’re a mission-driven, fast-growing tech company transforming how businesses verify people and how people verify themselves. We're also registered as a Credit Bureau, working with banks, enterprises, public institutions, and startups alike.

But our real secret? Our people. We believe in creating an environment where our people can do their best work — and love doing it.

The Mission of This Role:

This isn’t a traditional HR role.

This is a build-and-influence role, and your mission is to build an environment where talented people thrive through systems, culture, and leadership aligned with our growth.

You’ll help design the foundation of a workplace experience that supports long-term engagement, drives performance, and positions us as an employer that people are proud to be part of. Your work will have a direct impact on how our teams feel, grow, and succeed.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to shape a company’s people DNA and build a future-focused HR function from the ground up.

Who You'll Be Joining?:

You’ll work closely with the CEO, CHRO and executive leadership team, partnering with heads of engineering, sales, customer success, operations, and compliance. The leadership culture at Dots Africa is collaborative, transparent, and deeply committed to building something meaningful, not just for our clients, but for our team.

We believe high-performing teams are built on trust, purpose, and accountability. You’ll be part of the core leadership conversations that shape our culture, strategy, and future.

What You’ll Actually Do?:

  • Design and build the People & Culture practices.
  • Develop and lead HR strategy across the business.
  • Champion a high-performance culture rooted in trust, autonomy, and accountability.
  • Build a scalable HR infrastructure, including policies, systems, HRIS (we use BambooHR), and processes.
  • Design and implement the blueprint for our internship program.
  • Partner with managers to improve team performance, coaching, and growth.
  • Lead DEIB initiatives and ensure inclusive, progressive workplace practices.
  • Own the employee lifecycle journey — from onboarding to exit and everything in between.
  • Run employee surveys, feedback loops, and culture diagnostics.
  • Drive employer branding efforts to attract and retain top talent.
  • Ensure compliance with labour laws and best HR practices.
  • Support recruitment, performance reviews, and leadership development.

The Culture You’ll Help Build:

  • Trust by default — You’ll have genuine autonomy to build what you know works.
  • Encourage innovation — We’re building from scratch. You’ll lead the way.
  • Move fast — Speed is part of our DNA.
  • Hire smart, kind people — There’s no room for ego, only excellence.
  • Celebrate progress over perfection — Done is better than perfect.

Skills That Will Help You Thrive:

  • 3+ years in a People Partner / HRBP / People & Culture role in a high-growth environment
  • Proven experience building or scaling HR teams or functions.
  • Strong understanding of South African labour law
  • High EQ and business acumen — you get people, and you get strategy.
  • Track record of leading culture change or building award-winning teams
  • You’re a builder, not a babysitter. You like starting things and making them great.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in a tech, B2B SaaS, or startup environment.
  • Experience with employer branding and EVP strategy.
  • Strong HR analytics/data mindset
  • You’ve helped a company build a strong internal and external employer reputation.

What You’ll Get?:

  • A rare chance to help influence how the HR function is positioned within the business.
  • A seat at the table with leadership — your work will shape our future.
  • A culture of innovation, ownership, and real impact
  • Flexible work environment.
  • Support to pursue professional development and certifications.
  • Market-related salary with room for performance-based growth
  • A team of supportive, values-aligned humans
  • The joy of helping good people do great things.
