Drive the creation and strategy of Before + After content, producing multiple stories weekly while optimizing workflows for quality and traffic growth.

Apartment Therapy was originally launched in 2001 by interior designer Maxwell Ryan (nicknamed “The Apartment Therapist”) as a weekly newsletter for clients. We officially became an independently-owned company in 2004, and since then Apartment Therapy Media has grown to become the only media group dedicated to life at home. We are committed to teaching our audience real-life solutions by giving them tools to create happy, healthy homes through our award-winning brands: Apartment Therapy, The Kitchn, Cubby, and Dorm Therapy. Together, our portfolio engages a monthly audience of 47 million users across platforms, while our dedicated team of over 140 professionals collaborates from our sunny New York City office and locations across the U.S. and around the globe.

Apartment Therapy is looking for a Home Projects Editor to join our Home Hub team, which includes Home Projects, Style, and House Tours content. This editor-level role reports to the House Tours Director and will be a key driver of one of Apartment Therapy’s most iconic and high-performing franchises: Before + Afters.

The Home Projects Editor will own the day-to-day creation, strategy, and process behind our Before + After content, producing a high volume of stories each week while also shaping how the franchise evolves over time. This role is ideal for a strong writer-editor who is equally excited about editorial storytelling and operational excellence — someone who can think big-picture while executing quickly and consistently.

This is primarily a writing role, with the focus on writing and publishing 5–7 original home projects Before + Afters per week and refining workflows that support scale, quality, and traffic growth.

Responsibilities

Before + After Ownership & Production

  • Own the full Before + After pipeline, from scouting and sourcing to interviewing, writing, editing, and publishing

  • Write and publish 5–7 Before + After stories per week, maintaining Apartment Therapy’s editorial standards, voice, and service-driven approach

  • Independently conduct interviews, manage Formstack questionnaires, and handle transcription and asset delivery and permission coordination

  • Develop and maintain clear processes and systems that support consistency, efficiency, and growth across the franchise

  • Work closely with the Home Hub team to maximize content scouting and collection to support a united approach to covering home tours

Strategy & Growth

  • Own performance goals for the Before + After vertical, using traffic data and editorial insights to guide story selection, framing, and packaging

  • Monitor trends in home projects, renovations, renter makeovers, and DIY to proactively source timely, high-performing stories

  • Be active and adept at social media platforms to be able to find the coolest before and after projects and trends before anyone else

  • Regularly ideate new formats, angles, and evolutions of the Before + After franchise to keep it fresh, competitive, and Discover-friendly

  • Partner closely with the House Tours Director to refine strategy, pacing, and long-term vision for the vertical

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work cross-functionally with audience development, SEO, visuals, and other teams to optimize performance and storytelling

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience writing and/or editing in digital media or publishing, ideally within home projects, DIY, home design or lifestyle

  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing Before + After or related transformation-based stories

  • A strong, confident editorial voice with the ability to adapt to Apartment Therapy’s tone across platforms

  • Proven ability to write a high output of stories without sacrificing quality

  • Strong editorial judgment and an instinct for what makes a home project compelling and serviceable

  • Experience using analytics tools such as Parse.ly and Google Analytics to inform editorial strategy

  • Excellent writing, organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple workflows at once

  • Comfort owning processes, improving systems, and working independently while collaborating across teams

  • A flexible, solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities
