At Better, our team of Home Lending Associates are responsible for more than just generating loan applications — we count on them to help us continually innovate and ensure we’re bringing best-in-class customer service to the mortgage industry. As part of the team, you’ll be on the front lines of making every borrower’s mortgage experience better, empowering them to make one of the most important financial decisions of their life. Your work will expose you to other critical pieces of a technology company, such as product, engineering, and marketing, giving you many opportunities to share customer insights and ultimately improve Better's core technology and message.
The Home Lending Associate (HLA) role is often a stepping stone toward our licensed Loan Consultant role. Top performers in the HLA role may have the opportunity to earn their mortgage licenses and be promoted into a Loan Consultant role over time.
Responsibilities
Making outbound calls to prospective customers to introduce current loan options and qualify borrowers for next steps with a licensed Loan Consultant
Managing a pipeline of business prospects, whether starting their home-buying journey, refinancing their existing home, or looking for a home equity line of credit
Hitting key sales performance targets; driving customer conversion through critical funnel stages (e.g., converting prospects into hot opportunities)
Assisting home buyers with their mortgage application, including answering customer calls and making outbound follow-up calls
Executing on key sales activities within defined time frames for each customer (e.g., speed in responding to a new prospect)
Delivering outstanding customer experiences by successfully responding to questions and developing the requisite product and market knowledge to do so effectively
Ability to understand the customer’s timeframes and objectives and have a flexible approach to meet the customer’s needs
Constantly looking to improve our in-house software or the customer experience by providing input to our product, sales, and revenue operations teams and testing solutions
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of sales experience (with at least 1 year in the mortgage industry), ideally in a phone-based or outbound sales environment
Track record of beating quota, with references that verify motivation, success, and work ethic
Highly motivated; a self-starter with a high degree of ownership and a strong customer focus
Organized with strong time management skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with customers from a variety of backgrounds
Strong written communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently
All team members are required to work a minimum of two weekend shifts per month
