Together, we generate enough energy from waste to power around 80,000 homes annually and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres. This is only possible thanks to the dedication of our people, who make a real difference every day.

About the Role:

The Health & Safety Advisor (Waste) is a key member of the LondonEnergy Ltd (LEL) HSE team, supporting the delivery of high standards of health and safety across waste operations and projects. Working closely with the Head of HSE and wider HSE team, the role helps drive a positive safety culture through clear objectives, continuous improvement initiatives, and strong legal compliance.

The role is primarily focused on supporting LEL’s waste operations, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, LEL Life Saving Rules, and site safety standards. The Health & Safety Advisor (Waste) will also deputise for the Health & Safety Manager (Waste) when required.

In addition, the role supports engagement with external stakeholders, including the North London Waste Authority (NLWA), contributing to meetings, performance reporting, incident reviews, and responding to data requests.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage health & safety inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors across waste operations.
  • Support the development and delivery of long-term H&S strategies, promoting continuous improvement and industry best practice.
  • Ensure effective H&S governance and compliance with legislation, waste regulations, company policies, and LEL Life Saving Rules.
  • Support change initiatives within LEL and respond to external developments in the waste industry.
  • Monitor, measure, and report H&S performance, including key metrics, trends, and improvement actions.
  • Support incident investigations, identifying root causes, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
  • Provide competent H&S advice and support to waste operations, contractors, and the wider LEL business, including risk assessments, audits, and policy reviews.
