Head of Tax (Europe)

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced tax leader to oversee tax strategy, compliance, and structuring across our European operations. This senior role involves developing high-caliber tax solutions, advising management and partners, and ensuring compliance with international tax regulations. In this role you will play a critical role in shaping tax policies, optimizing partner taxation, and improving internal processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner Income Tax & Income Sourcing:
    • Develop and implement income sourcing policies for partners.
    • Collaborate with external advisors on local tax developments and provide support during tax audits.
    • Manage tax compliance for partners across multiple jurisdictions, including monitoring tax payments.
    • Collaborate with local teams to maintain tax compliance and alignment with regulations.
    • Oversee the preparation of K-1 equivalents for U.S. national partners.
  • Europe-Wide Tax Structuring, Compliance & Advisory
    • Provide guidance on partner income tax, VAT, withholding tax, corporate income tax, trade tax, and other cross-border tax regulations, in cooperation with local finance teams, our tax partners, and external consultants as needed.
    • Oversee tax compliance for group entities.
    • Lead tax planning and tax risk mitigation.
    • Ensure adherence to Mandatory Disclosure Rules (MDR) and other international compliance requirements.
    • Manage partner and employee mobility tax cases, addressing permanent establishment risks, social security compliance, and expatriate taxation.
    • Lead tax structuring efforts to support growth, restructuring, and expansion initiatives.
    • Provide training and advisory support to local and European finance teams.
    • Conduct annual updates on transfer pricing models and review local tax laws to mitigate double taxation risks.
    • Act as an advisor in different tax related questions in collaboration with internal business services teams (such as HR or Billing).
  • Partner Accounting & Financial Reporting:
    • Monitor tax payments across the Firm and provide tax input for the Partners Accounting and Treasury teams.
    • Advise on tax implications in partner distribution policies.
    • Collaborate with the group consolidation team, controlling team, and external auditors.

Requirements

  • Professional tax qualification (CTA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent).
  • 8+ years of experience in tax compliance or advisory, within professional services, the legal industry, or global mobility.
  • Extensive expertise in European tax laws, cross-border taxation, and mobility taxation.
  • Proven ability to handle complex tax issues in a multinational environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to navigate complex business structures.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to advise senior stakeholders and lead through change.
