Job Summary

The Business Unit Leader will focus on Small Business Package Solutions and will be responsible to build and lead the platform to support and scale the book.  This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership role responsible for building the requirements for the broker facing technology infrastructure and performing the oversight across underwriting, claims, operations, statutory reporting, financial analysis, technology, and strategy. This role serves as the internal general manager of the business unit, accountable for defining underwriting rates and rules across a wide variety of business classes, performance, distribution strategy, product development, operational excellence, and talent leadership.

The leader will drive profitable growth, modernize capabilities, and ensure the delivery of competitive, scalable package solutions that meet the evolving needs of small business clients and distribution partners.

This role requires a commercially minded insurance executive who combines underwriting discipline, data-driven decision making, and strong people leadership.

Position Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the strategic vision for the Small Business Package portfolio.
  • Build out of the BOP/CPP product including broker facing. application/quote/bind/issue process – rates, rules, forms, applications, UW Guide, 3rd party data, technology delivery.
  • Establish clear growth, profitability, and market expansion targets aligned with enterprise objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and strategic partners.
  • Develop distribution strategies to expand market share in targeted small business segments.
  • Identify new product, segment, and distribution opportunities to drive competitive differentiation.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics to inform strategy.
  • Establish KPIs to measure service levels, underwriting quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, authority structures, and ensure consistent execution across regions and channels.
  • Lead product enhancements and innovation to improve competitiveness and ease of doing business.
  • Partner with technology and operations to implement digital solutions and process efficiencies and deliver best in class broker facing experience with a focus on automation and speed to quote/bind.
  • Shared vision for process end to end automation using technology data AI etc. to make automation decisions
  • Partner with executive leadership to ensure alignment between the internal carrier and MGA structure.
  • Own full P&L accountability for the business unit including premium, loss ratio, expense ratio, combined ratio, and contribution margin.
  • Drive disciplined underwriting and portfolio management to achieve target returns.
  • Develop financial forecasts, budgets, and multi-year growth plans.
  • Partner with actuarial, finance, and claims to optimize pricing, reserving, and profitability.
  • Oversee financial analysis, billing processes, and operational strategy.
  • Develop succession plans and strengthen bench depth.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, performance, engagement, and retention.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in the insurance sector, with a proven track record of expanding products and services.
  • Must have P/C, commercial lines experience including BOP/CPP underwriting and/or product development and management.
  • Experience with multi-class BOP platform work.
  • Experience implementing and modifying ISO and proprietary rating plans, including LCM development and loss ratio segmentation.
  • Experience working directly with retail agents in an underwriting capacity.
  • Proven leader who is willing to go deep into the details and execute with precision.
  • Demonstrated leader who has thrived in high-growth environments and is eager to lead from the front with proven results in the areas of driving premium growth and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated P&L ownership and financial acumen.
  • Track record of driving growth while maintaining underwriting discipline.
  • Proven experience in cultivating a dynamic and agile culture that prioritizes curiosity and innovation.
  • Experience with building teams and takes pride in collaboration and nurtures teams to develop their full potential.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Embody leadership excellence at scale, lead with clarity, shape and sustain our culture, model fiscal discipline and stewardship.
  • CPCU preferred.

The starting annual pay scale for this position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, training, and experience. In addition, the company offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) plan with match, paid time off, and other benefits.

ISC's salary ranges are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

National Pay Range
$200,000$230,000 USD
